Coastal Design, Cottesloe Project, WA

Building a modern, stylish and comfortable home with a minimal carbon footprint is no longer just a pipe dream. Passivehaus Perth was briefed to build a new family home to the voluntary German ‘Passivhaus’ Standard, using a mixture of interior and exterior materials to provide high levels of thermal comfort, indoor air quality, and low-energy use. Finalist in the James Hardie Awards 2016, this beachside home was constructed by Consortium Builders. The owners of the home wanted an ‘upmarket’ beachside home that was sustainable yet also fit in with the aesthetic of the surrounding suburbs, therefore choosing Scyon Linea™ for the exterior painted in Dulux Surfmist 150%. This coastal aesthetic is continued through the interior using HardieGroove™ lining. This home demonstrates the clever use of product to create a sustainable design, as noted by Passivhaus, “this project shows the place for high durability, low carbon footprint products from James Hardie in creating the high comfort, healthy, ultra-low energy buildings future.”
