The design was inspired by 70's rock n' roll, and blended architectural details like heavy textural stucco and big archways with colorful and bold glam styling. We handled spacial planning and all interior design, landscape design, as well as custom murals.

Kitchen Design ConceptsThe builder we partnered with for this beauty original wanted to use his cabinet person (who builds and finishes on site) but the clients advocated for manufactured cabinets - and we agree with them! These homeowners were just wonderful to work with and wanted materials that were a little more "out of the box" than the standard "white kitchen" you see popping up everywhere today - and their dog, who came along to every meeting, agreed to something with longevity, and a good warranty!
The cabinets are from WW Woods, their Eclipse (Frameless, Full Access) line in the Aspen door style
- a shaker with a little detail. The perimeter kitchen and scullery cabinets are a Poplar wood with their Seagull stain finish, and the kitchen island is a Maple wood with their Soft White paint finish. The space itself was a little small, and they loved the cabinetry material, so we even paneled their built in refrigeration units to make the kitchen feel a little bigger. And the open shelving in the scullery acts as the perfect go-to pantry, without having to go through a ton of doors - it's just behind the hood wall!
Susan Yeley HomesLike most of our projects, we can't gush about this reno—a new kitchen and mudroom, ensuite closet and pantry—without gushing about the people who live there. The best projects, we always say, are the ones in which client, contractor and design team are all present throughout, conception to completion, each bringing their particular expertise to the table and forming a cohesive, trustworthy team that is mutually invested in a smooth and successful process. They listen to each other, give the benefit of the doubt to each other, do what they say they'll do. This project exemplified that kind of team, and it shows in the results.
Most obvious is the opening up of the kitchen to the dining room, decompartmentalizing somewhat a century-old bungalow that was originally quite purposefully compartmentalized. As a result, the kitchen had to become a place one wanted to see clear through from the front door. Inset cabinets and carefully selected details make the functional heart of the house equal in elegance to the more "public" gathering spaces, with their craftsman depth and detail. An old back porch was converted to interior space, creating a mudroom and a much-needed ensuite walk-in closet. A new, larger deck went on: Phase One of an extensive design for outdoor living, that we all hope will be realized over the next few years. Finally, a duplicative back stairwell was repurposed into a walk-in pantry.
Modernizing often means opening spaces up for more casual living and entertaining, and/or making better use of dead space. In this re-conceptualized old house, we did all of that, creating a back-of-the-house that is now bright and cheerful and new, while carefully incorporating meaningful vintage and personal elements.
The best result of all: the clients are thrilled. And everyone who went in to the project came out of it friends.

Jessica MeisterTo save money, we used an existing house design our builder had worked on previously and made changes to the layout to open up the space and maximize on our incredible lake views.
The first thing we changed was to flip the kitchen layout and move the stove and hood to the side wall to make room for a window and some open shelving over a farmhouse sink. This allowed us to maximize the partial lake views on the south side of the house and saved money on additional custom cabinets.
We also removed a smaller pantry that was closing off the open space between the kitchen and living room. Instead, we turned the corner of the kitchen into a much larger, walk-in pantry that also saved us a bit on granite costs and added a ton of storage.

The owners and I, with a bottle of red wine, drew out the final design of the pantry in pencil on the newly drywalled walls. The cabinet maker then came over for final measurements.

Blue Sound Construction, Inc.This Seattle remodel of a Greenlake house involved lifting the original Sears Roebuck home 12 feet in the air and building a new basement and 1st floor, remodeling much of the original third floor. The kitchen features an eat-in nook and cabinetry that makes the most of a small space. This home was featured in the Eco Guild's Green Building Slam, Eco Guild's sponsored remodel tour, and has received tremendous attention for its conservative, sustainable approach. Everything HomeOur studio created the welcoming environment our client wanted for entertaining family and friends around the year. The pretty farmhouse-style kitchen has a lovely backsplash, comfortable seating, and traditional sink. The living room offers a cozy vibe for conversation with a stylish black-tile fireplace facing a plush sofa and accent chairs in light-colored performance fabrics and an elegant black armchair. The dining room features a beautiful wooden table, elegantly upholstered chairs, and stunning pendant lighting above the table for an attractive focal point.
