An extension and renovation to a timber bungalow built in the early 1900s in Shenton Park, Western Australia.
Budget $300,000 to $500,000.
The original house is characteristic of the suburb in which it is located, developed during the period 1900 to 1939. A Precinct Policy guides development, to preserve and enhance the established neighbourhood character of Shenton Park.
With south facing rear, one of the key aspects of the design was to separate the new living / kitchen space from the original house with a courtyard - to allow northern light to the main living spaces. The courtyard also provides cross ventilation and a great connection with the garden. This is a huge change from the original south facing kitchen and meals, which was not only very small, but quite dark and gloomy.
Another key design element was to increase the connection with the garden. Despite the beautiful backyard and leafy suburb, the original house was completely cut off from the garden. Now you can see the backyard the moment you step in the front door, and the courtyard breaks the journey as you move through the central corridor of the home to the new kitchen and living area. The entire interior of the home is light and bright.
The rear elevation is contemporary, and provides a definite contrast to the original house, but doesn't feel out of place. There is a connection in the architecture between the old and new - for example, in the scale, in the materials, in the pitch of the roof.

Front of North Caulfield project - considerable work was done to reappoint brickwork and garden space, original features were retained and restored. Veranda tiles were reappointed and brickwork paving was extended and redesigned. This is a good example of Victorian later period row houses architecture. Both the job and the clients were a rewarding experience.

Designed and crafted as a showcase for Abodo timber products emboding their motto: Carefully Crafted Timber.
Set in the harsh alpine climate of the Cardona Valley, the cabin demonstrates the durability of the product. The crafted carpentry of the exposed timber interior reflects warmth, texture and heart.

A courtyard home, made in the walled garden of a victorian terrace house off New Walk, Beverley. The home is made from reclaimed brick, cross-laminated timber and a planted lawn which makes up its biodiverse roof.
Occupying a compact urban site, surrounded by neighbours and walls on all sides, the home centres on a solar courtyard which brings natural light, air and views to the home, not unlike the peristyles of Roman Pompeii.

This home packs a powerful punch, hence the name. We designed the Monsoon to cater for shallow blocks. It fits comfortably within a 14m x 30m plot of land. The Monsoon offers maximum impact from its minimal footprint. If a vast impressive open living area and lavish master suite is on your new home wish list, let this home sweep you off your feet.

Garden studio / Bed and Breakfast within the grounds of a heritage house and gardens. The inspiration was a French Provincial rustic style, with a modern interpretation with pitched roof and barn-style doors and textured cladding. Charcoal timber and battens are featured. The garden studio has two bedrooms and a spacious living, kitchen and bathroom, and sits harmoniously in the grounds of this heritage precinct.
