Northwest Heritage Renovations
This picture gives you an idea how the garage, main house, and ADU are arranged on the property. Our goal was to minimize the impact to the backyard, maximize privacy of each living space from one another, maximize light for each building, etc. One way in which we were able to accomplish that was building the ADU slab on grade to keep it as low to the ground as possible and minimize it's solar footprint on the property. Cutting up the roof not only made it more interesting from the house above but also helped with solar footprint. The garage was reduced in length by about 8' to accommodate the ADU. A separate laundry is located just inside the back man-door to the garage for the ADU and for easy washing of outdoor gear.

After purchasing a vacation home on the Russian River in Monte Rio, a small hamlet in Sonoma County, California, the owner wanted to embark on a full-scale renovation starting with a new floor plan, re-envisioning the exterior and creating a "get-away" haven to relax in with family and friends. The original single-story house was built in the 1950's and added onto and renovated over the years. The home needed to be completely re-done. The house was taken down to the studs, re-organized, and re-built from a space planning and design perspective. For this project, the homeowner selected Integrity® Wood-Ultrex® Windows and French Doors for both their beauty and value. The windows and doors added a level of architectural styling that helped achieve the project’s aesthetic goals.

This backyard cottage is a neighborhood gathering space. The ground floor opens up to the alley and yard for impromptu get togethers in addition to serving a ballet studio. The 2nd floor features a 1 bedroom apartment.
Reverse Architecture
The cantilevered informal sitting area hangs out into the back yard. Floating aluminum steps create a path from the house to a raised ipe deck and down to the yard. The deep corrugations of the metal siding contrast with the vertical v-groove siding of the original ranch house. The floating steel and glass cube adds a dramatic interior volume and captures the view of the landscaped back yard.

This house is discreetly tucked into its wooded site in the Mad River Valley near the Sugarbush Resort in Vermont. The soaring roof lines complement the slope of the land and open up views though large windows to a meadow planted with native wildflowers. The house was built with natural materials of cedar shingles, fir beams and native stone walls. These materials are complemented with innovative touches including concrete floors, composite exterior wall panels and exposed steel beams. The home is passively heated by the sun, aided by triple pane windows and super-insulated walls.

The Owners wanted a small farmhouse that would tie into the local vernacular. We used a metal roof and also a wrap around lower porch to achieve the feeling desired. Duffy Healey, photographer.

A cute green heritage home is a wonderful idea and this house executes that idea perfectly. With the green being Benjamin Moore's Tate Olive on all the stucco and wood siding, it matches well with the trim colour that is Benjamin Moore Powell Buff and the shingle colour which is Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage.

La forma de la cubierta responde al reto de integrar en ella los paneles fotovoltaicos y de agua caliente que garantizan el consumo energético nulo de la vivienda. En el interior se generan espacios abovedados de gran riqueza espacial.
