PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN BY ALEXANDRA CIAMPI
Harmony - Variety: This room has variety. It combines many different colors and styles. The blanket is yellow chevron, while the carpet is grey and white with a different pattern. All of the pillows are different colors and patterns. Even the box on the table is a different pattern than everything else. Even though this room incorporates many different colors and designs, its still in harmony.
Harmony - Unity: This room represents unity. The color scheme here is green, white, and grey. The couch and the chairs are the same. The white pillows and green pillows are the same. The table's legs match the couch and chair's frame. The wall decor is the same color as the pillows. The plants also compliment the green.
Rhythm - Radiation: This dining room shows rhythm, specifical radiation. The lines outward from the focal point. The focal point in this room is the chandelier. The backs of the chairs make a slight curve outward from the chandelier. Some may argue that the picture is the focal point of the room. The chairs also curve outward from the picture, creating radiation.
Balance - Asymmetrical: This room is asymmetrical. On the left side there is a big couch, but instead of another couch on the right, they replaced it with two cushioned stools. On the left, there is a big lamp in the corner, while on the right, there is a black chair in the corner. On the very right, there is a dresser while on the left, there is no dresser. Even though this room may seem balanced, the two sides are actually not identical.
Balance - Symmetrical: This bedroom is symmetrical. Both of the beds are the same size. They also have the same pillows and comforter. Each bed has the same light hanging over it. In the middle of the two beds, there is a table with a plant in the middle of it. Also, behind the beds, there is a big headboard. If you split this room in half, it would be the same.
Proportion/Scale: This room has the correct proportion and scale. This is a good size for a kitchen, and a person could fit in it comfortably. Everything is in proportion. For example, the chairs fit perfectly under the island. A person could easily fit on the chair.
