5. Organize your desk. It’s a wonderful feeling to start a new week with a clean, clear desk. 1. Take care of holiday returns. Instead of allowing unloved presents to languish unused, gather them up and return, exchange or donate them as you see fit. Feeling a pang of guilt about not keeping a gift? Remember that your duty as the gift recipient is to accept the gift graciously and thank the giver for his or her generosity and thoughtfulness — what you’re not duty-bound to do is keep the gift forever. But here’s one caveat: If you received a lovingly handmade, labor-intensive gift (like a knit sweater or handmade quilt) it’s best to keep the gift in the family if at all possible.
1. Last year: You piled your clothes on your bedroom bench or chair. This year: Hang up your clothes daily to free up your sitting space. 4. My organizing strategy will begin and end with a few well-placed baskets. Having some sort of containment for summer gear can help keep swim fins and sandy beach toys from getting underfoot. But summer is not the time for fussing over individually labeled containers. Set out a few big bins and call it a day.
2. I will go barefoot as often as possible. Kick off your shoes as soon as you get home and don’t bother putting them on again until you absolutely must. There’s something about having a barefoot house that captures the essence of summer. And of course it’s even better if there’s a hammock and sweet tea or lemonade involved.
