Living Room
The renovation opened up the living spaces on the main floor so the garden view can be enjoyed from many angles. A large picture window behind the kitchen sink and the floor-to-ceiling glass pocket door offer a wide view of the backyard. The new open plan is designed for casual, social living throughout the various spaces. It’s all about flow and talking and moving in a visually relaxed environment.

The design team kept the low ceiling in the front entry to provide a layering effect: While the living and dining areas have high, vaulted ceilings, the kitchen ceiling is also low.

For one application, Jones drilled holes in the bottoms of dozens of glass drug vials, strung them with piano wire and suspended them around a skylight, shown here, above the mezzanine. “It freezes the sunlight for a moment and there’s a beautiful sparkle hanging in midair,” he says.
