4. You’re Renovating an Old House
From outdated building codes to unusual historic design elements, updating an older house is a challenge that requires a special touch. An experienced kitchen designer can help you navigate this tricky process smoothly.

The finished space nods to the home’s rich history while incorporating fresh, modern touches.

I’ve done three renovations now, two of which were complete rebuilds. The first thing I’ve done is hire a kitchen designer. They know how to layout a kitchen, location of appliances and new products and trends. They are so worth it. Love my new kitchen and kitchens definitely sell a house...
I chose a great Kitchen Designer, Ray Jandura. He was so helpful in renovating my kitchen and 3 bathrooms several years ago. He was a great listener too. I got the gally style kitchen that I always wanted and 3 colorful renovated bathrooms! He is worth his weight in gold!
Be sure your kitchen designer and builder are talking to each other! And that your designer understands your vision! I’m 5’2” and my designer was a 6’ tall woman. She just couldn’t understand many of my requests. She never drew up an electrical plan, and I’m still trying to figure that out. My husband and I love cherry cabinets, and I had very specific requests, which got lost in the shuffle. It seemed when new plans were drawn, the old ones were left in the folder, so it depended on what paper was pulled that day. My fireplace mantle is to be redone for third time this week. My contractor has been understanding when I’ve put my foot down and demanded change, but I had to do that too often. I did let my designer go when she kept showing me gray tile and flooring after I told her no gray. I’m bonding with my new beautiful kitchen and quasi-great room, new back entry, powder to 3/4 bath, laundry room, sun room, completely new master bath. Needless to say our budget went belly up when we had to replace our deck, the furnace, the roof and decided to add a third garage. Right now we are doing our own painting, and I’ll do the tile work and lay the floor myself to help save money. It’s slowing the process even more, but if there’s a mistake, it’s mine.
