Siblings Day Surprise: Television Star Mario Lopez Creates Sister’s Dream Space in New Episode of “My Houzz”

Houzz Inc., the leading platform for home remodeling and design, today released the latest episode of “My Houzz,” an online series that follows people as they renovate the home of someone meaningful to them. In time for National Siblings Day, the episode features popular television host and actor, Mario Lopez, as he surprises his sister, Marissa, with an entirely new space her whole family can enjoy in their home in Texas. The episode is available to watch now at houzz.com/myhouzz.

Inspired by a love of dancing and the arts the siblings shared growing up, Lopez wanted to create a special place where Marissa could take time for herself and make new memories with her family. Lopez enlisted two professionals from the Houzz community, Cindy Aplanalp-Yates of Chairma Design Group, and general contractor, Matt Sneller, from Sneller Custom Homes, to design and build an addition to Marissa’s garage, creating an expansive dance and fitness studio that includes a meditation room, kitchenette and ensuite.

“Whenever Marissa would come visit me in Los Angeles, she would comment on my dance and fitness studio and how much she would love to have a space like that in her own home,” said Lopez. “Using Houzz, I was able to create her dream space, by finding inspiration and great local professionals, to buying all of the products and materials that made the room so unique. It was amazing to see Marissa’s reaction and the kids light up as they talked about all the things they would do together in the new space.”

Earlier episodes of “My Houzz” have featured Ashton Kutcher, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Gordon Ramsay, Kyrie Irving, Jenna Fischer, Ludacris and Clay Matthews. Each episode documents a well-known public figure as they surprise someone who has made a difference in their life with the gift of a renovation, using Houzz throughout the journey.

More information on Mario’s inspiration and Houzz ideabooks, as well as products and materials used in the renovation, are available on Houzz at www.houzz.com/myhouzz.

“My Houzz” was shot for Houzz by Shed Media and was executive produced by Ashton Kutcher, Pam Healey, John Hesling, Bill Gaudsmith and Dan Pierson.
