We love transforming outdoor spaces across the home counties and London. We specialise in conceptual design, project management, unique and bespoke projects, water gardens, private estates, unique tree supply and art in outside spaces. We have created everything from gardens for country estates to new-build houses, to traditional cottage gardens and small London courtyards. Water gardens, Lakes and streams are particular favourites as is improving planting schemes for existing gardens. Our style is recognised for its clean lines and wonderful planting, yet we pride ourselves on our ability to capture and reflect the personalities of our clients and how they wish to use their space. We work regularly with private clients and homeowners, estate managers, architects and developers and are delighted to welcome enquires from the UK and further afield. Holly and the team did a great job in coming up with a brilliant design for our rather awkward garden (we have no square angles and very few straight lines). They listened to what we wanted to achieve and guided us carefully on what was actually going to be possible with the end result being a wonderful and innovative design that more than matched our brief. On meeting them and coming up with a design brief they completely understood what we wanted and were able to translate this into a fantastic design that we really loved Every meeting we have is followed by a clear and comprehensive summary of what was discussed. They are always happy to step over and above to ensure that the job runs smoothly working closely with architects, builders and structural engineers. All in all they have made the whole experience for us a pleasure - they also happen to be lovely people too. I would thoroughly recommend them

I consulted with Cool Gardens for tender of a private Estate with approx 6 acres of internal gardens. Upon my first initial meeting with Ruth & the directors I was extremely impressed. The head office sits in a beautiful part of the Chilterns and they clearly demonstrated immediately expertise, flair, creativeness and due diligence. Their knowledge of the Gardening world design, implementation and handover is outstanding and the best Architectual Gardening design company I have ever worked alongside. Every meeting they listened to my Ideas, whilst generating their own creativity within the project from start to finish. When the gardens started to be formed the plants were incredible actually outstanding quality I have never seen such quality coming to site every day, I found my self getting immersed with their head gardener and the team. Learning from them each individual plant and species, including teaching me the Latin names. Even helping to plant a few! The turf was simply amazing and the area was prepared thoroughly, my turf has now been admired by every single guest through the Summer and Autumn we were still cutting in December!. As we had a very dry year last year we had irrigation put in from natural source (borehole) our grass is still as green as the day it was put down. Our gardens flourished all Summer with Cool Gardens expertise and advice of feeding, nourishing, cutting the grass, weeding etc. I can’t wait to see this year as the plants will get even bigger. Cool Gardens are now returning back to look at our next phase of project and I can’t wait to see what they come up with for me. Thank you so much to all of the team, you are all excellent, professional, Curtious and are used to large Grade II listed Estates.

We had a very expensive and unpleasant experience with (not so) Cool Gardens - They DO NOT LISTEN but are quick to invoice! Royal Ferns should not to be drowned in the pond! Funny they know ponds oh so well but they were surprised by the fish being being nosy and pushing plants around. Not humble enough to know when they have got it wrong!

We were surprised and dismayed to read this review. We were, as you know, contracted to provide design and planting services by your Mother and Father in law, not by you, and they professed themselves delighted with the work at all stages of the 14 months we worked together, and became, as we thought, friends. Should an incorrect plant have found itself into the large batch of pond planting that was brought in, it would have been an honest mistake and certainly would not have been charged for so it seems an odd element to focus on in around £30,000 worth of works about which we have not received any complaints whatsoever from our clients, and which has been paid for in full.

As practical work was started on site, you were introduced to us as project managing this major project, and you asked us for help given you do not have experience of landscaping. We welcomed you to our offices on several occasions, supplied you with quotes and materials as requested, and you treated us warmly as colleagues and seemed genuinely grateful for the support we offered you.

We were genuinely stunned that when we laid out in advance our fees for the next phase of work, our clients were apparently not happy to pay a deposit (as they had for all 3 previous quoted stages). We have not heard a word from them since a brief note asking us to cease work, and your comments focusing on their pond planting (a small and entirely separate piece of work carried out entirely to spec) are not only somewhat surprising given our detailed discussions at the time, but also inaccurate and misleading.

We are genuinely sorry you feel you have had a bad experience as a result, and always reflect on how we could do better, but we make no apologies for invoicing promptly according to the terms of our clear written agreements.

I am writing this review to warn other people not to use this company. although the design started well, the project management and installation were appalling. Our lawn had to be totally re-laid due to poor compaction of the ground resulting in serious pits forming, combined with the grass lifting and failing due the poor ground preparation. To add insult to injury we were then asked to pay again for further turf and further labour to cover their costs to their contractor. we also had a raised patio area constructed which has also failed and has cracked all the way around the perimeter of the raised area. This will now also have to be replaced at substantial cost. we have also now come to finish our water features and realised that the pipework installed by Cool Gardens is not connected into any of the manholes and therefore we have had to have this work rectified at great cost. on presentation of their final bill they have tried to significantly overcharge us for items of work not undertaken and for hedging which they have not installed. unfortunately despite attempts to resolve we are now in a legal dispute. I have subsequently received other quotes to complete our garden which have been 25% of the prices quoted by Cool Gardens. this company many have won awards for show gardens but don't be seduced into thinking they will do a good job as our experience has been terrible.

Obviously this would be a deeply upsetting review to read if it referred to any Cool Gardens work. In fact Cool Gardens carried out designs for this client which were liked very much, and the supply and installation of a large number of mature trees which are also perfect. The construction work referred to was not carried out by Cool Gardens but by the clients’ own construction company, TSL. Far from paying twice for the work the client has not paid once for a large chunk of it and we are with great regret in formal legal dispute as a result. We are surprised and dismayed that Ms McDonnell feels that making these highly inflammatory statements in public will help her legal position as we move towards claiming what is legitimately owed.

Having said that we do not take any poor reviews lightly and seek to take all the learning possible from this bruising experience.

Ive been shooting Cool Gardens landscapes for a few years now and always look forward to the experience. Beautiful, imaginatively designed gardens which are a pleasure to photograph. Prior to arriving onsite the gardens have always been beautifully prepared and access arranged without any issues. They have a relaxed yet highly professional approach and I’ve always been made to feel like a valued member of the team. Looking forward to shooting more gardens in 2018!!
