Los Angeles interior designer, Catherine S. Grasso, brings her creative sensibilities to Design for Living, striking the perfect balance between how a space looks, how it functions, and how it feels.
"When I meet new clients I want to know everything about them -- how do they like to live in their space, how do they like to entertain, what do they do in their spare time, how do they envision themselves living, where have they traveled, what are their children's (or grandchildren's) needs, what do they like to cook (or not), where in the home do they like to spend the most time -- It all helps me to figure out what is going to work for them design wise, both stylistically and functionally.
Collaboration is the key.
Any designer can make a place look pretty. What's important is to make it not only beautiful, comfortable and functional, but to make it a complete reflection of the clients' lifestyle, needs and desires. Otherwise, it's just a place. It has to be their sanctuary, not mine."
Catherine’s design passion began many years ago while living in a charming old flat in San Francisco. Her move to New York expanded her visual language with exposure to the city’s classic architecture and modern design.
"My style kept evolving with every place I moved into. Soon my friends were asking me to decorate their places after seeing my apartments. I adored it." Inspired by the earthiness of Europe, Asia’s ancient colors, and the tile work of North Africa, Catherine’s travels shaped her ability to mix eras and palettes. After completing 4 plus years of design school, she continues her education attending workshops and seminars throughout the U.S. She makes her home in Topanga, California.
Whether remodeling, redecorating, or starting a new project from inception, Catherine’s innate design sense, attention to detail, keen problem solving skills and her relaxed approach appeal to the California lifestyle.
