Biography Ann began her professional career designing corporate interiors in Chicago and developed a passion for resort mountain architecture after relocating to Colorado in 1995. Her experience working for firms in Vail and Aspen allowed her to collaborate on award-winning architecture. She donates her time serving the community on several design review committees as well as to local nonprofit organizations, where sharing her compassion for children and the great outdoors are involved. Sustainability We are passionate about preserving the natural environment and recognize that sustainable design is one of the most important issues influencing architecture today. Not only does our firm embrace sustainability in its practice, but also attracts clients who value the performance of their buildings. We openly discuss the objectives of designing responsibly and living appropriately with our clients, where together we can establish priorities and commit to expectations. From single-family homes to rural barn structures, we strive to create energy-efficient and environmentally conservative buildings. Approach Darby Architects believes in fostering an interactive environment with our clients in which ideas, project goals, and values are shared. We believe that this collaborative approach of creative exploration and communication supports the quality of the end-result. We initiate our projects with an on-site meeting where we walk the land, gain an understanding of our clients’ connection to the place, and develop a design concept integrating the program to the site. This concept evolves as we continue to refine the design through creative exploration, team interaction, approvals, and budget reviews prior to construction. During this process, we present the design in a digital 3D model, allowing the owner to visualize their home by realizing the boundaries between interior and exterior. The result is an architecture that responds to its site, shapes our experiences, and builds long-lasting relationships.
