We hired Greg and his team to build our custom mountain modern home just outside Salida. He is the consummate professional and a true pleasure to work with. His team - Markus, Brian, Mike, and all the guys have an amazing attention to detail, earning our trust throughout the process. Do your “homework” and you will quickly hear that Fish Builders uses the best Subs. Greg gave us solid input and advice starting at site location, design process and throughout construction. While there are always issues/challenges in construction, he is easy to communicate with and will call you back. We were out-of-state customers, so trust is huge. We highly recommend Fish Builders, not only is Greg our builder, he has become our friend. Great company, you will be impressed!

Greg at Fish Builders built our garage. We love it and the experience with Greg and his crew was professional and fun: we actually made new friends with all of the guys that worked on our property. Our neighbors have given us so many compliments on how nice the garage looks!

Greg Follet of Fish Builders was the general contractor for our contemporary-style house built in a remote, wooded area near Poncha Pass. Greg is knowledgeable about his profession and is easy-going and very pleasant to work with. Nothing seems to upset him. He is dedicated to building high-quality, well-constructed, energy-efficient homes, and he guided us in building on a challenging site with water issues, choosing a more efficient way to heat the house, and designing and finishing the decks and courtyard. We are very pleased with the final product and are happy to recommend Fish Builders. If we could give 4-1/2 stars we would but did not have that option for this review. Four stars instead of five for the following reasons: Some communication glitches and faulty assumptions in the process were frustrating at the time, and meant that a few things had to be undone and re-done. Ultimately these issues were resolved to our satisfaction. A few of the subcontractors responsible for some exterior work were unreasonably slow about returning to finish their jobs, which meant that it took months longer to have the house finally completed than we had been told or were expecting.

Greg and his Fish Builders of Colorado team built our dream home in the Salida area. It wasn't an easy house to build as our architect had designated some rather unusual (alternative) building materials. There were some ups and downs in the process, but through it all Greg maintained a relaxed and professional attitude. He's a skilled problem solver with a delightful sense of humor and a rock solid character. Contrary to what most people say about building a custom home, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can thank Greg and his team of good-natured and skilled craftsmen for making it fairly stress-free and fun. We give Fish Builders an enthusiastic “thumbs up.”

My wife and I looked for a small Salida company that had experience with building eco-friendly houses. We interviewed a few builders, but were very happy after our meeting with Greg Follet. We hired Fishbuilders to demolish an old house that was on our lot, and were impressed with how much they were able to salvage. It was no wrecking ball and into the dump approach -- we salvaged the bricks, the pipes, and a bunch of other things. All of those found new homes, and got re-used. And it went similarly with our house. Planning: Greg was involved in our discussions with the architect, and he helped us with changing some of the details and some major elements (e.g. the roof). I appreciated having him in our corner so to speak, as the architect was resisting our suggestions. Carpenters: The Fishbuilders carpenters showed a lot of attention to detail, and we are very happy with the results. I am continually impressed when I look at the rafters on our wooden deck, which required some pretty fancy measuring and cutting. Subcontractors: Greg has a good relationship with a lot of the subcontractors, and I am glad that we chose him to be the General Contractor. I considered taking that job on, but it was a better decision to rely on his contacts and expertise. Green building: we built a home that has radiant heating, solar hot water, photovoltaic panels, is well insulated, mostly no-VOC paints, etc. Greg was familiar with those technologies and helped us make good decisions. Planning and accounting: Greg had a budget and schedule that he would send us updates on every few weeks. Very difficult to really make the budget meaningful as the project changed scope a few times throughout. But it gaves us an idea of how things were coming along. We saw Greg nearly every day on the job site, and he was easy to contact. Followup: In the years since the house was built, Greg has always been happy to come over on short notice to help us assess minor issues, general homeowner problems, etc. I highly recommend Fishbuilders.

Greg Follet and his Fish Builders company built our house in 2006-07. Greg worked well with our architect, the project moved along smoothly, problems were solved quickly without any significant cost overruns, and the project was completed on schedule. The project was a 2700-sqft house and 900-sqft garage.

Our experience with Fish Builders was very positive. Fish Builders completed a multi-faceted remodeling project for us, which included: designing and installing a new kitchen, opening a wall, moving a window, installing updated wiring & lighting, replacing a ceiling, refinishing floors, and building a closet. We had numerous professionals from many trades in and out of our home for two months, and every single one was skilled, respectful, and easy to work with. Greg Follet of Fish Builders consulted closely with us to help achieve our vision, and did an excellent job coordinating and supervising all the details of our project. We couldn't be more pleased with the results!

Fish Builders of Colorado built my home, and later my barn/garage, starting in June, 2009. From the start, Greg Follet, President, and his crew were professional, friendly, and a pleasure to have as our builders. We were first-time home builders and Greg was very helpful in making sure we understood every detail and decision along the way. He knew we were on a tight budget and helped use make decisions that would keep the costs with reach. His estimate at the start of the project was within 1% of the final cost. Our house could be considered a small and relatively simple, compared to some larger and more elaborate ones. Some contractors might prefer to work on larger projects with a bigger budget. But Greg treated us and our project no differently than any other client, and made us feel that our house was as important as any other - a very nice feeling. Building a home is a long process with many decisions along the way, so it is essential to have a good working relationship with the builder and crew. Greg and I could call and talk at any time and discuss issues in a matter of minutes. The crew was also very helpful in making suggestions about how things should be done or could be improved. Greg's business model was very simple and easy to understand. All invoicing and billing was done once a month. Upon my review and approval, bills were paid by my construction loan bank. The quality of Greg's and his crew's work is exceptional. I am involved in various types of building and craftsmanship and I can say that every time I am in the house, I am impressed by how things were done. It is a pleasure to look around and see the things they took the time to do right. Greg's dedication to environmental and energy savings methods are also much appreciated. The house is very tight, well-insulated, energy efficient and very easy and inexpensive to heat and keep cool in summer. Several things stand out in working with Fish Builders - Greg's relationship with the sub-contractors. If subs like working with a certain general contractor, things tend to get done quickly, correctly and professionally. I didn't appreciate the importance of this aspect of home construction until saw how the Greg and the subs work together. Perhaps this is also a benefit of working in a smaller-market, but I think Greg's style and personality have a lot to do with it. The same comment can be made in woking with the project architect. Greg and our designer had an excellent working relationship and could easily discuss issues as they arose. Secondly, no project of this magnitude is without some changes or mistakes, so how a contractor deals with them is a key factor in making the project run smoothly. Greg's approach is always friendly, analytical and businesslike - he addresses issues and finds several solutions, and never lets a situation get more complicated than need be. In the early planning stages, I got bids from five companies - as usual, some too high, some too low. Fish Builders gave an appropriate and reasonable bid, which we accepted soon after our initial meeting with Greg. It was clear to me I wanted to work with Greg and his crew, especially after visiting one of his projects in progress and seeing the quality of his work. I could not be more proud to say that Fish Builders of Colorado built my home. I welcome anyone to come visit and see first-hand the work they do.
