Look no further than Amy Gardner and her team. Easy to work with, very responsive, and they listen. We bought a home, thinking it was a big renovation, well turns out it was a tear down. Amy and Brittany were there through the entire project from concept, drawings, permits (no small task in DC), and construction. We wanted to make sure the home fit in with the neighborhood - mission accomplished. Inside it is a work of beauty...including the universal design first floor.

We have only superlatives to describe the work of Amy Gardner and Brittany Williams of Gardner Architects LLC. We put them to the test with our project – a complete renovation of an early 20th century coach house/garage in a downtown historic district. If that wasn’t hard enough, we wanted to add a third storey. We had a vision of what we wanted but few specifics. Amy and Brittany translated and augmented our ideas and our aesthetic into a unique dwelling that we love. Their preliminary work involved not only a focus on design alternatives but also taking those designs through the lengthy historic preservation process. With that expertly done, they attacked the plans with superb finesse while somehow making the entire experience fun for us. For the construction phase we were supported by Gardner Architects at every turn -- from selecting a contractor all the way to the final punch list. They were always accessible and responded to all questions and concerns promptly. The end result is outstanding in every way. The only downside is that with our project completed we miss them.

We worked with Gardner Architects LLC to get a professional evaluation of our 70+ year old Cape Cod and to commission suggested plans for expansion and renovation. While we love its charm, we could use more "21st Century" living space. Amy Gardner visited our home, took detailed notes on what we were interested in and how we live, and then came back another time to take photos and measurements of the house. She also requested a copy of the plat and reviewed them. Based on this, she drew up 8 suggested additions/renovations for us to consider. (We were expecting 3.) She really took the time to think about the different spaces and develop interesting options. We worked with her to develop a 5 years plan for adding/renovating and our end result was the plans that were developed. Additionally she made suggestions for types of contractors and moving forward with the first year project (basement renovation). We are launching that soon and will definitely work with Gardner Architects LLC in the future as our 5 years plan unfolds.

I am a principal of Added Dimensions Inc., a contractor specializing in the construction of higher end contemporary residential construction. We have worked with Gardner Architects on two projects. In each case, the plans for the project were imaginative and well thought out as well as being carefully prepared (and easy to build from!). In addition to being a highly qualified architect, Amy is also an absolute pleasure to work with. It is clear that she cares deeply about her work and her clients. My experience is that she will work (and worry) until everything is as it should be. Can't say enough positive things about the firm's work.

If you would like to work with an architect who listens to you, works out the details, cares about both function and form, is sensitive to cost considerations, responds quickly, and is actually fun to work with, you can stop looking now. I have no qualms giving Gardner Architects my highest rating.

My husband and I have renovated several homes and have worked with a number of architects. Once we worked with Amy Gardner of Gardner Mohr Architects, who was referred to us by a dear friend and a Yale-trained architect, we have never looked elsewhere. We completed two substantial projects with her, one in 2009/2010 and one in 2015. We recommend her very highly, for a variety or reasons. First, Amy is an excellent architect. Her design skills are superlative. Yet, she has always been very sensitive to our desires and preferences, consistently incorporating these into her own elegant and distinctive designs. She is also very practical, which means that she can find cost-effective solutions to construction dilemmas. Furthermore, Amy is a consummate professional. She is a team player, working well with our builder and other specialized designers to find solutions in a practical and collaborative fashion. She is, moreover, a positive and pleasant person, so even in the darkest days of our renovation projects she was able to reassure and encourage us. Finally, Amy has always been respectful of our time and budget. Please rest assured that you are in the best hands with Amy.

We hired Amy Gardner to design a new home on a canal, just west of the Atlantic ocean, situated across from a marsh and wetlands. Working with Amy and Brittany was a pleasure--they listened carefully to our goals and aspirations, guidelines and vision, and were inventive, meticulous, and persistent in their approach to realize them. They were always responsive, working hard to foster a team approach. The results bear out their effort. We love our house, as do many other people -- strangers walking by stop to tell us how amazing a home it is and we totally agree. We still can't believe how lucky we were to find the perfect architect for our new home and hope to work with Amy and Brittany again in the future.

In a search for a back porch that was part of a peaceful and serene setting I looked through hundreds of projects on Houzz and decided I wanted something with some Asian influence. I finally found one with some Japanese touches and when I scrolled to the bottom I was in disbelief that it was done not only by a local architectural firm but that it was nearby. After a phone call and meeting I hired Gardner and Mohr to bring my dream to life. Amy Gardner took the lead but everyone there was helpful. I was given options at every decision point, adjustments were made for my budget without sacrificing the design, and the end result was wonderful. The firm has other projects on Houzz and they are excellent at taking mundane houses and turning them into amazing new homes.

I came to know Gardner Mohr Architects a number of years ago when I photographed one of Amy Gardner's beautiful projects (Craftsman Teahouse) for a Washington Post article. Whenever she calls I am excited because I know I will be photographing inspiring, light-filled, eminently livable, and environmentally conscious spaces. To use my skills to illuminate for others the gifts inherent in her architectural designs is to offer something of value, and I am glad for that opportunity. I was particularly happy to photograph two of the University of Maryland Solar Decathlon projects Amy led with other faculty members. It is worthy of note that the Maryland team resoundlingly won 1st place in 2011. Her involvement with this highly demanding international competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy demonstrated without a doubt the depth of her integrity as an architect, her enthusiastic engagement with environmental concerns, her talent to be both leader and team member, and her ability to remain dedicated throughout an extraordinarily intense project. Amy Gardner is great! She gave me solid advice on my kitchen design, and pointed out several important design and function issues I hadn't considered. My scheduled cabinet instillation had just fallen through; but Amy knew a good cabinet installer. She promptly emailed me his information and my kitchen is once again on-track. Similarly, Amy provided excellent guidance and smart connections to local resources for my bathroom renovation. Amy has a perfect blend of superb design expertise, keen listening skills, and a comprehensive attention to detail. She truly cares about the outcome of every project.

Amy Gardner has been an amazing architect for me. Amy came to me through my brother, who is the dean of an architecture school. I hired Amy to design my dream house. She worked with me intensively to understand exactly what I wanted, unitl we finally agreed on the design. She then helped me find a general contractor who would work as a member of our team to execute the design. I live abroad for my work, so Amy had full responsibility for supervising the construction process and keeping me informed of progress and challenges. She managed to do all this flawlessly. She also played a major role in choosing the interior finishes and fixtures, narrowing down the options to styles that she thought I would like. This saved me enormous time and hassle. The end result is a delightful house. Many of my neighbors have come by to say how much they like the house, and asking for a tour of of the inside. I could not recommend Amy more highly.

Gardner Mohr Architects did an absolutely fabulous job on our home! Through out the entire project they were incredibly dedicated. They were extremely well respected by all who worked on the home. Their knowledge, technical expertise, creativity, attention to detail and ability to communicate far exceed expectations. We have a split-level home, which can provide various challenges when it comes to remodeling. The design Gardner Mohr developed was exceptionally creative! I have been a kitchen and bath designer for almost 30 years. Through my work I know many architects, so when it came to my own house, I didn't know who to choose for our house remodel. By chance, I found blueprints on top of my refrigerator from a minor renovation to our house done in 1994. The name on the blueprints was Amy Gardner and I called. The first day we met, I had absolutely no doubt that she was definitely the person for my project!! Amy's ability to listen and to respond to what it is we were looking for was so amazing that sometimes it felt like she knew better what it was that we were looking for. Her talent, breadth of knowledge and professionalism continuously impressed us. Unlike many architects that I've worked with, she also makes the process very fun and her sense of humor was always so refreshing! Our house turned out beautifully, won many awards, got a lot of press and has even been on TV! Since then, she and I have collaborated on several projects together, and, she is very consistent with every client. I am most proud of the projects that we work on together, and, have to say that her talent makes them quite outstanding!

Ms. Mohr provided architecture services for our completely renovated 3,000 sq ft apartment. She worked with the contractor until completion. She has a very discerning eye catching several problems before they were executed. She is an exceptionally good listener who turned all our wishes into plans for our beautiful home. To give just one example, she translated a traditional kitchen and dining room layout from the 1920's into an open design that created a light filled family gathering area while still allowing space for formal dining.

Amy Gardner, of Gardner Mohr Architects, changed our lives! We were proud of our 1920's Sears Bungalow (called Craftsman Teahouse in Gardner Mohr's Houzz profile), however, it was in dire need of a new roof and other repairs. We didn't want to invest in the expense of a new roof on top of a home that needed more attention. We knew that we needed an architect to show us what would be possible as far as expanding our home, but, didn't know where to turn. By chance, we found old blueprints on top of our refrigerator which illustrated a modest renovation that a previous homeowner had undertaken. On the blueprints was Amy Gardner's name and contact information. I didn't realize it at the time, but, I had won the architectural lotto! I contacted Amy, and, she was excited to potentially work on our house again. After the first meeting, it was obvious that she was exceptionally talented and that she would be very fun to work with. We told her that we like Asian design, but, that we thought we'd have to stick with the bungalow look, and, fully expected this to be what Amy would come back with for her first presentation for possible designs. To our utter delight, she found a way to make our addition contemporary, yet, still honoring the original bungalow look! She told us the we needed to take the top floor off, which was actually an attic turned second floor which was structurally inadequate to handle the weight of what had been previously built. She also gave us the option of adding one or two stories on the back. The back addition was contemporary with an Asian flare AND, she melded this with the existing front by changing that elevation to a Japanese Tea House look! We were SO elated that we could have a house the ingeniously melded the existing bungalow look with a contemporary Asian look. She also educated us on the fact that the American Bungalow look was highly influenced by not only the Arts and Crafts movement, but, also by Asian and specifically Japanese architecture. This further confirmed to us that we chose the right architect, because, she has an excellent ability to listen and to respond. To us, this was critical since it was incredibly important to us to be able to collaborate with her rather than have her design behind the scenes solely on her own. We heard horror stories about architects who would stay steadfast in their design aesthetic, regardless of what the client was asking for. The entire process was so inspiring, educating and joyful that when it was over, we actually missed the interaction! The final product speaks for itself. We are located on a busy road, and, when it was done, people in cars that were backed up at the light would shout out to us, as we sat on the front porch, how much they LOVE our house!

I have consulted with Gardner Mohr Architects for nearly a decade. I find them highly talented, client centric, and committed to the process as much as the outcome. Their work is proof that the beauty is in the detail... I highly recommend them.

As an architectural photographer, I have known and worked for Amy Gardner of Gardner Mohr Architects for more than five years. She is one of a group of architects that is thinking about the future and how she can utilize her generous talents to make better more sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings. I have found her designs to be invigorating. The spaces eminently functional and her designs to utilize the available light and air flow to be of equal magnitude.
