Om oss

Jennifer completed her Bachelor of Design in Melbourne in 1997 and after a stint as a furniture designer became involved in residential building design. In 1999 she moved to Tasmania, undertook further design studies and the ever expanding field of building design has held her focus ever since. Jennifer has been working as a sole practitioner for the last 20 years, continuing to grow her successful design practice. She lives on Tasmania's east coast and has thrived being involved in residential architecture, meeting the opportunities presented by a growing awareness of environmental sustainability and responsibility. Jennifer brings a practical, people focused approach to projects and is committed to achieving successful outcomes for clients, maximising the potential of their projects. With a strong focus on site responsive design she designs to reduce the energy consumption of buildings and increase amenity for occupants. With extensive local knowledge and a broad network of resources, Jennifer uses highly developed creativity and problem solving skills to help create beautiful, affordable, energy smart buildings. As well as residential projects, Jennifer carries out small commercial projects and urban design and planning.

We chose to work with Jen because we loved the shape, function and simplicity of her designs. She has worked hard to design a home that meets the unique needs of our beachfront location. Jen is great to collaborate with, communicates well and often offers alternate ideas to align with our budget. She is a lovely person who has become a great friend. If we build again we will definitely seek out Jen Binns as our designer.

New to the community we thought we'd chat with a couple of designers and decide who we wanted to go with. Jen was first and we didn't need to search any further. We found Jen to be a friendly and responsive communicator. Professional at all times she listened to our needs, was patient with our changing ideas and produced detailed, high quality working drawings. Couldn't be happier really.

Jennifer designed and got approval for a new house we are building on the waters edge in the Bay of Fires in Tasmania. She took the briefly and beautifully designed a stunning house that will do justice to its location. The builders quote has come in a little bit above our original budget but we did up spec the house considerably. Would definitely use again.

I highly recommend Jen Binns for her design skills and attention to detail, she listened closely to my needs and aesthetic and came up with a design I am very happy with. I found Jen to be skilled and knowledgeable through the whole complicated process from drawing up to submitting plans to council.

Have used JBDesigns three times now and had no problems either with the drawings or getting my projects through the council approval process. My experience is that Jen listens and works with the client, value adding to ideas and designs presented while ensuring the client is aware of potential problems with their ideas and alternative options. She has always been readily available post council approval to assist and provide advice. Highly skilled and knowledgeable in her field which translates into high demand for her design work. A number of friends have also chosen to use JBDesigns for their projects.

Jen was great, just what we were after - some excellent design way above our level and the ability to be able to execute from design to council approval to dealing with contractors. And importantly, a good eye for nice design.

Jennifer designed and obtained planning and building approvals for our shack. We found her to be a great problem solver design-wise, but her local knowledge and networks and project skills made the overall experience painless and our resultant shack just perfect! As newbies to the home reno scene we had big ideas for a new extension, but we were unaware of how we could make our dreams a reality. A friend suggested we contact Jennifer Binns Design. We found Jen easily approachable, she listened to our ideas and provided us with guidance on how to achieve our goals and she was soon working with us to transform our dreams into reality. We found the planning and design process quite enjoyable, and Jen was able to assist us with a detailed design plan of what we wanted to achieve. Jen was also very helpful in guiding us through the various steps which were required by our local council and our legal obligations in achieving our design. We have no hesitation in recommending Jennifer Binns Design to help you realise your building dreams!

Jen provided a great deal of valuable input into our owner-builder project. She made many insightful suggestions relating to our original house design, and was always willing to listen to our opinions, rather than trying to force any ideas onto us. Jen drew up high-quality professional plans for submission to council and led us through the various approval processes. Her detailed knowledge of local planning regulations helped our development and building applications to progress very smoothly.

After my initial consultation with Jennifer to design my forever home, I waited with anticipation as to what was going to be presented to me, and I was not disappointed in any way. Jennifer basically nailed what I had briefed her with to be in the house and with a few adjustments and advice from Jennifer we have come up with a design and a home that will be forever. Her knowledge, professionalism and workmanship is second to none and I would have no hesitation in recommending prospective clients to her.
