After two decades our two story, 3700 sq. ft. penthouse in Coal Harbour was feeling tired. We spent awhile in ‘dither mode,” debating whether to do a minor versus major renovation until Lee measured the place from stem to stern and began to generate two and three dimensional CAD drawings from multiple perspectives that showed us what was possible. That kicked us into the ‘tear it down to the studs and start over mode.’ Although the basic floor plan remained similar, Lee altered the dimensions of every single room to optimize feel and function. The kitchen, media room and stairway were completely reimagined, much of the duct work reconfigured, walls shortened and/or extended, baseboards heightened, valences amplified, all of which enhanced the sense of height, space, substance and flow. All this while creating newfound privacy where it had been lacking. The result has a “wow factor” greater than the sum of its parts. Plus the views are more “inside” and our artwork and painted Quebec antiques pop in a way they didn’t before. Lee has a special talent when it comes to the use of space; she is perfectionistic and detail oriented while never losing sight of the big picture. As a designer with strong opinions, she forced us to think through our own ideas and preferences at a deeper level than we would have otherwise. Not to mention her handholding through countless trips to kitchen, lighting and appliance outlets and the fact that she did most of the heavy lifting with the general contractor for the several months of demolition, framing and electrical/plumbing while we played golf in the desert. It is perhaps obvious that we are more than just “happy” with our renovation. We would never have been able to accomplish such a transformation without Lee Luxford.

Lee was the architect/ designer for a renovation project on which I was the general contractor. It was a challenging attic space being converted into two bedrooms and a bathroom in an older home. Lee's layout effectively maximized and transformed the space into a new beautiful, elegant and modern home. Lee was easy to communicate with and her plans were well thought out and excellently drawn, making my job much easier. I was impressed with her overall attention to detail and was very fortunate to work with and learn from her. I can't recommend her services enough and would love to work with her again in the future.

Lee designed the renovation of the attic in our 1920s home. She turned a blank canvas into two beds, a bathroom and a play space for our two kids. She worked tirelessly to find just the right design, re-imagining several times to make sure by-laws were adhered to and that we were happy. I can't say enough about Lee's brilliance. She is so incredibly passionate about making spaces usable and functional for the people who use them--and of course her eye for aesthetics. Lee's intuition is spot-on and she goes above and beyond in the realm of customer service. I am so pleased with the result and so grateful that Lee's vision and heart will always be a part of our family home.

Lee provided my wife and I with excellent and timely ideas and advice for a complete basement restoration (following an overland flood) and for a renovation of the front porch and walkways. She produced updated digital drawings (based on 30-year-old original construction drawings) that were very helpful to us in deciding how to proceed and to our contractor, with whom she worked very professionally. Lee was great to work with and tuned-in to what we were hoping to achieve. She helped us re-think our plan to simply re-do our laundry room and we now have a great one! We know that Lee's knowledge of construction processes, fixtures (vanities, toilets, etc.), and finishing techniques helped reduce the cost of the project, but produced a great result. Of course, we would use Lee again in a heartbeat.

Lee is very professional in every aspect, I found her to be very organized and self confident. Lee is very decisive and has a clear vision of what the project entails. You know exactly at any given time where all stands. Lee is also a true pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend hiring her.

Couple of years ago we were asked by Lee to renovate her own Whistler chalet. The house was architecturally interesting with lots of potential. It needed many technical and energy efficiency updates and the finishing needed to be brought up to Lee's detailed standards. Having high standards ourselves we were pushing each other for better and higher quality thruout the entire renovation process. Lee wouldn't rest until perfection was achieved! I hired Lee to design a small house, that had to attach to an existing structure as a strata duplex. I wanted a "condo" without the condo fees, and a large terrace and fenced garden. I wanted the house to blend in to the neighbourhood which is well established and has many heritage homes. Her design is spacious in spite of the small footprint and the storage space is amazing. The flow of the house works just right for my needs, it is a pleasure to entertain here. A wonderful combination of traditional and modern design that suits my eclectic taste, it is a beautiful space. It is a pleasure to have exactly what I want in a home, as I came to her with no clear idea what I wanted. I would not hesitate to make a home again with her.

I've worked with Lee on several projects over the past decade and have always found her very professional, personable and detailed in her design. although the attached photos below are from earlier in our connection, they are most typical of her work.

Lee provided a edesign of our house in London and transformed the house from a traditional, old fashioned 1930s box to a really fabulous, modern design without losing the original features that we wanted to keep. lee is super creative and has the best design eye. I would strongly recommend her. She also redesigned the kitchen in another of our properties in 1997 and the kitchen is still fresh and looks like it was designed recently. Her designs really stand the test of time.

Lee has done a number of projects for us. She has a great design sense and works tirelessly to get the details just right. Her work looks great and works practically with our lifestyle. I would definitely use her again on our next project.

Lee Luxford Architecture + Design provide me with the design for a complete renovation of my 1000 square foot condo. The design took my space from a run-of-the-mill 2 bedroom rental property to a New York loft-style residence that works beautifully for both day to day living and entertaining. Lee has an amazing design eye and a talent for problem solving. She had a major impact on the renovation of our last two houses, both collaborative efforts in which she created the overall concept and I chose the fittings and finishes.
