I have worked with Marta on several waterfront projects. Her designs are beautiful and well crafted, and most importantly, her involvement from start to finish, keeps the integrity which results in a picturesque home. About 10 years ago, my wife and I were enamored with a house designed by Hansen Architects that we saw in a magazine so Marta was our first and only call when we were ready to build our home. Marta was creative and thorough from concept to CD's. We highly recommend her for your new custom home!

Marta designed a complete remodel on an older home located on the water. The home had unusable spaces. Marta was a genius reconfiguring the space to make it flow and accomplish all of our objectives. She is very detailed, thorough, creative and organized.

After interviewing several architects we hired Marta to design the waterfront house of our dreams, working creatively within a number of site restrictions and quite a few of our own requirements. She did a superb job for us, and was a pleasure to work with throughout the process, which extended over 3 years of design and construction. The attached picture shows the water side of the house, in the final stages of construction. The front facade, enclosed by a courtyard and lap pool, is equally nice but no pictures since our landscaping is still a work in progress!

Marta brought our vision to life by understanding what was important to us and keeping that as her guide. The additional value Marta brought beyond desigining a beautiful home was her ability to guide decisions that had financial impact while ensuring it didn't compromise the high quality and custom feel in the end product. We interviewed 3 architects (including looking at houses each had built & checking their references). We ended up choosing Marta--& we kept saying to each other during the year-long design & permit approval process how glad we were to have chosen her & to be working with her. Marta listened to everything we said & gave us options all along the way. We loved her ability to draw quick sketches during our meetings to illustrate her various ideas. She was conscientious about our budget during the entire process--& she took the lead in obtaining 3 comparable bids & in negotiating with the bidders to get the final contract amount within our budget. Marta is also wonderfully personable, has a great sense or humor & made the process fun! She was always on time--both for our meetings & with drawings & answers to questions she promised us. Most of all, though, she was wonderful at turning our ideas into a house with the look & feel we asked for. We hired Marta Hansen to design a river view cottage and the end result was beyond our dreams - a perfect 3-generation home in the summer and a home for a couple the remainder of the year. We've had 3 marvelous years and the home continues to be perfect. She listened, responded to all interests, and managed our needs and the demands of the community's architectural review and Anne Arundel County requirements. When neighbors requested changes, she pleasantly redesigned all three floors to accommodate their concerns. She focused on how we live, natural light, site lines from one side of the house to another, and creative storage space. She responded well to my husband's knowledge and precision in HVAC and electrical plans. With her guidance, the end result was within a modest budget, with no changes, and on time.

She was able to understand the essence of what we were looking for, and envision and design an improved version of what we had in mind. She made suggestions that were responsive to some of our requests - but in certain instances replaced what we thought we wanted so that the end result was better than what we had requested from her initially.
