Shelley Hugh-Jones Garden Design is a professional practice based near Wandsworth Common, SW London working on projects both small and large, urban and country. Each project is unique and we aim to create gardens that are in context and have a cohesive transition from the interior to exterior creating one unified space. The key to a successful garden design is collaboration with the client, problem solving, function and a creative use of space with imaginative planting, all of which extends the useable space from inside to outside. A garden design project starts with a detailed discussion with the client regarding their requirements, budget, likes and dislikes. Thereafter, concept and layout plans are produced, and following the selection by the client of a lead design, a planting plan and plant lists are drawn up. Work is also undertaken on a consultancy basis providing services tailored to the clients specific needs such as help with planting schemes, ideas for garden makeovers and styling for the sale of a house and parties/events etc.

We couldn't be more happy with our new garden. Working with Shelley was a real delight. She is very talented and has designed the most beautiful space - meeting all our requirements and more. The use of space is perfect and the planting well thought out. It's the most enjoyable and stress-free home project we've ever undertaken - we felt in safe and efficient hands throughout. Shelley introduced us to the other contractors we used on the project, all of whom were equally high calibre and a pleasure to have work on our garden. I couldn't recommend Shelley highly enough.

We are absolutely over the moon with our new garden which Shelley designed so beautifully. At the outset she listened carefully to our brief and then came up with an incredibly well thought out design we could never have conceived on our own. The work was completed to a very tight timetable in an extremely challenging environment just before the lockdown in March. But her efforts meant we had the most amazing garden over summer and now have a space we will enjoy for many years to come. The planting was perfectly chosen and it's lovely seeing how the garden changes from week to week. We could not be happier with our beautiful new garden and the service we received throughout.

Shelley has given us the garden we dreamt of. We had a long thin harden that was unloved, overgrown and sad. We now have an oasis. Her design was so much cleverer than I would have envisaged. With sections for different activities and surprises as you make your way down. We trusted her as this is the second garden she has designed for us. She also makes sure to link the garden with the house working with our architect. Her planting is exquisite and she remains involved and interested long after completion. She is a total delight to work with.

Shelley has an encyclopaedic knowledge of plants and we trust her implicitly when it comes to advising our clients - she has a flair for design and can easily reflect what we are doing inside a home into the garden space to ensure cohesion. Shelley has designed and executed a truly stunning garden for us. She really listened and worked sensitively with us and our architect to make a wonderful space which flows beautifully from the kitchen. The garden was always a top priority as the kitchen has huge glass doors onto it. The materials are interesting and the colours perfect with subtle contrasts and superb lighting. The planting is perfect- lovely varying greens- all year round with a variety of whites and deep purples which change and tell a story with the seasons. Shelley continues to provide invaluable advice and I can't recommend her highly enough.

Shelley and I worked on the same project, which included renovating a Victorian house throughout and adding a basement and a rear extension; Shelley designed the garden. I found it very easy to work alongside with her; communicating with her is natural and she has a talent to create innovative green spaces, which work well with architecture we produced for this house. She proved to be efficient, knowledgeable, reliable and just a very nice person to work with. I would definitely recommend working with her and I have already successfully referred her to new clients.

Shelley redesigned our London garden and the front garden. I loved her designs and she listened very sensitively to how we use the garden and what we wanted. She has remained involved with us and pops in to give advice on any changes, upkeep etc. We have a wonderful green living roof to our bin store ! I wholly recommend her, and have done to friends and family.

Shelley landscaped our front and back gardens after the builders had finished. There was nothing worth saving and Shelley transformed them. We asked that they be interesting all year around and that they be easy to maintain. Although she took into account the type of plants and style we were looking for, we very much put ourselves in her hands. We are delighted with how our garden has turned out!

Kommenterade: Awkward wallYou could use planters/troughs on the patio agains the wall to create more height or bolting troughs directly onto the top of the wall. It depends on whether you need a solid screen or not.
