I have known and worked with Richard since the fall of 2017, he worked as the general contractor on our unique and challenging home renovation. My wife & I purchased a home in The Highlands on Lake Keowee in 2016 with plans to undertake a complete conversion from its prior Italian/Mediterranean architectural style to a rustic Lake Lodge using authentic, vintage reclaimed timbers and wood from old abandoned mills throughout the Carolinas. A complex project that would change the roof lines, all windows & doors, electrical, tile, plumbing, floor refinishing and all interior & exterior details. We lived in Illinois with plans to move to South Carolina permanently so it was important to select a contractor who would serve as a trusted owner’s representative from 800 miles away. Richard exceeded our expectations and added tremendous value by creatively installing beautiful timbers and trim work with wood that has become very rare. Especially important has been Richard’s attention to detail, personal involvement, field supervision and recommendations that led to decisions that have been significant enhancements to our home. He worked from a value-add perspective to improve the design and quality of our home and met our time constraints. The subcontractors who worked for him held the same philosophy and work ethic. SHB did a great job for us on our large remodel. They were very flexible with schedule and planning. They made adjustments on the fly when the weather threw us a curveball. They were great with design changes and adjustments when something unplanned came along. The management of sub contractors and schedule was excellent. They were also very familiar with best practices for carpentry, masonry, painting and flooring. They handled every aspect of our remodel include a new addition and demo and update of existing rooms. I would recommend them for any size job.

Southern Horizon Builders recently completely a remodel of my original 3 bedroom, 1 bath Ranch style home. I now have a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bath, with a dedicated laundry room home. There were challenges along the way but Richard worked with me and got them resolved. The remodel was long over do but I’m glad I did it and had a builder that would work with me.
