Sam Tonos created Tonos Design Studio in 1994 to provide architectural and interior design services for a wide range of clients. The studio designs each project to meet the unique needs and desires of clients in townhouses, apartments and homes in the greater New York City area. Tonos Design Studio’s work represents an eclectic yet disciplined aesthetic reflecting the personality of each client and their particular space. Each project starts with a client meeting to review needs and desires. The interactive design process allows clients to have input in reviewing and defining their programs. This forms the basis for creating different design options for the client to review, select from and possibly create new approaches and strategies Exploring these different design options allows the client to select those that are best for them. These ideas are further developed and synthesized with other skilled professionals, artisans and vendors, who bring their expertise to the completed project. This hands-on custom approach builds on a relationship between TDS and the client to deliver a product that exceeds basic needs and enhances personal desires. From traditional townhouses to open lofts, Tonos Design Studio explores options that best suit each of its clients.

Sam did an amazing job on my apartment. He is creative, funny, and so talented. He made sense of my crazy ideas and came up with designs that were both practical and unique. The amount of patience and professionalism Sam had with had with my contractor, the co-op's management company and its engineer was astounding. He always made himself available to me and everyone else working on the apartment. He transformed my apartment from blah and traditional to something colorful and quirky, with storage galore! I love it and can't wait for my next project with Sam.

Sam is absolutely the most talented ,CREATIVE, easy to work with Architect/Designer one could possibly ask for. After 2 previous companies Sam came to the rescue and and patiently helped us redo our New York 2000+ sq.ft. apartment that we absolutely loved. He then did another ,3300 sq ft. which was very difficult as it was in Mid Town Manhattan and had very strict rules. His ability to negotiate the system is superb. He then redesigned a vacation house in Malibu Canyon CA. which was a smashing success. At this point he is like family and we enjoy sharing meals and beverage with him. Our biggest mistake was not having him do a Waterfront Condo in Sarasota Florida as he was too busy. Big Mistake. We should have waited. We still ask him to come to Sarasota do redesign work for us on a house we purchased. He still calls and says "I found this perfect piece that i think would go in your---" One will never go wrong working on a project with Sam. he respects your input and desires and we will always ask Sam to do projects for us. The next one may be in Florence, Italy. Not sure he'll come:):)

Sam brought an unparalleled combination of creativity, whimsicality, humor and professionalism to our project. He gut-renovated my combination of two apartments and he held our hands the entire way. He went truly above and beyond. He was always knowledgable while also funny. He's more self-deprecating than arrogant. And he brings just the right amount of "thinking-outside-the-box" to push the boundaries of what I hoped for. He considered all of our aspirations while adding his own spark of inspiration to make our apartment even better than we could've hoped. Hire Sam. Your life will improve.

Over the past 15 years, my wife and i hired Sam for many of our residential renovations projects. Each one was a complete success and received many accolades from both design professionals and lay people. He assisted us with a gut renovation of a NYC apartment within an Art Deco building circa 1928.. Our collaboration led to renovating the interiors of an 1874 Second Empire Victorian home. As a licensed architect, Sam demonstrates enormous versatility in designing and problem solving for any spatial or architectural condition. His design expertise and talents comprehensively and seamlessly blend and coordinate architectural and interior design concepts. He has a great color and spatial sense. To add to his rich design talents, he is a very funny and entertaining person. We wish we had more projects for Sam to exhibit his design wonders.

I had a terrific experience working with Sam Tonos Design. We live in an 1875 farmhouse, we had a limited budget, plus we wanted to combine old aspects of the house, that would also suit our needs everyday, and entertaining. We came up with a great plan which opened up the kitchen, and transitioned perfectly to the adjacent great room. Sam is creative, and has a sense of humor, very important when dealing with contractors and buidling inspectors!

He seamlessly integrated new design ideas into our 1924 vintage apartment to create a fresh, modern feeling while maintaining many of the original details.
