Align Builders

We had the pleasure of working with Michael Smith with Align Builders for our home renovation. Bottom line, Michael is awesome and you should hire him! Our project was taking our existing 840sqft home, knocking it virtually to the foundation and building a new, two story, 2200sqft home. Micheal started by giving us a detailed budget estimate, and by the end of the project, he was within about 3% of his estimate. He also provided us with updates throughout the process to let us know where we were within the original estimate. He has a great ability to see the whole project very clearly from the beginning. We originally connected with Michael because our neighbors had recommended him after he renovated their home. Michael is very knowledgeable and super calm, which goes a long way in the process of a renovation. We wanted to make sure we had a contractor that would listen to us and also provide insight into the industry. Michael did that and so much more. My husband and I wanted to be very involved in the entire process and Michael made sure to provide us as much detail as we wanted. He would update us on the project regularly and let us know what to anticipate. He’s a great listener which is a necessity when coordinating so many parts of a large project. We were pretty amazed at his ability to recall our preferences about even the littlest things. We were impressed with Michael every step of the way. His crew is awesome and the sub contractors that he works with are great. Everyone that worked on our house was professional, reliable and committed to the quality of their work. Michael and his crew make sure that their work is done well the first time. If you are looking to hire a detailed, organized, hard working, thoughtful, committed, patient, and dedicated person and crew, then Michael Smith is your guy!

Michael's helped us with two home remodel projects, one a kitchen remodel and one adding a wing onto our house. In both instances, we were extremely happy with both the quality of Michael's work and his professionalism. He finished the work on time and within budget, and he worked closely with us on both to make sure we were getting exactly the work we wanted. Our house is about 90 years old, but the new areas fit right in. We've recommended Michael to multiple friends and family members, some of whom he's already helped on their projects. We have no hesitation giving him the highest recommendation.

Michael and his team helped me with a considerably large project, which also happened to my first venture into remodeling. Michael has an architectural degree as well, so is very helpful in working with another architect. He was and still is very patient with explaining construction terms, as well as very fair with negotiations. He has since helped me with other smaller prospective projects, and continues with work on my home. Very trustworthy and high quality. I would very much recommend him, and hope to work with him again on future projects.

We hired Michael to complete a major renovation of our old 1910s era Crafstman bungalow home, involving a house lift, footprint expansion, and gutting/replacing of all of the mechanical systems and interior features of the house. Throughout the duration of the project, Michael and his team exemplified great attention to detail and we were very happy with the end result. We were also impressed with Michael's problem solving ability to work around issues that inevitably come up with renovating old homes like ours.

Michael worked built a large remodel/addition for our house and continues to help us out on projects, including building our kitchen cabinetry. He is a great designer, very careful, detail oriented and a highly skilled craftsman. He used his great experience and knowledge of the entire process to help us make the best decisions for our home. Those who I have recommended his firm to have been equally impressed. Most importantly, he's a very nice, honest person that is easy to work with.

Lewis + Smith completed several renovations for us. First a kitchen remodel, upgrading a 1933 kitchen to a modern kitchen that still maintained the character of the original design. Michael Smith always came up with eco-friendly and durable materials, including Paperstone counter-tops and Marmoleum floors. Second, we did a major remodel of our upstairs, turning a small, boxy, musty space into a master bedroom and adding a second bathroom. We love this space, as it takes advantage of our view of Mt Rainer, and Michael and Eric found as much usable space as possible. By carefully removing old lathe and plaster, and fully understanding support beams, they were able to open up the ceiling and use the original framing to accent the room. Finally, the largest project was adding french doors from the kitchen, turning the old door into a window which required masonry work. The doors open out onto a new deck over a new garage. There was a large amount of cement work, water flow analysis and solutions, and fitting in new design w/ an older home. This work expanded our usable space, especially in the summer, and really opened up our whole home. Michael was always willing to suggest innovative ideas, use our own ideas, into the design. He was also willing to share references for materials. All of his subcontractors were wonderful and craftsmen in their respective disciplines (e.g., tiling, electrical, dry wall). We would highly recommend Lewis + Smith.

This is the second project for which we used lewis + smith. The project was a high-end build out of a bakery cafe at the University Bookstore in Bellevue. The project turned out better than I could have expected - spectacular. Once again, lewis + smith did a fantastic job.

I worked with Mr. Smith building a cafe inside an existing operational commercial space. It was great to have a designer with the background in building. The information provided plus that he worked closely with us during the rough in was great. He understood the challenges with modifying a space and avoiding post tension cables to complete the rough in. Once we were complete the cafe was built with high level finishes and clean crisp lines.

We had a very positive experience with Lewis and Smith. Michael in particular was extremely communicative with us during our entire basement renovation. He updated our original plans and made them better, kept on task and on budget, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. All of his subcontractors were on time, respectful and did fantastic work. I would highly recommend Lewis and Smith to anyone and will definitely hire them again for future projects.

lewis + smith design build firm are efficient, insightful, professional and honest. The remodel project turned out beautiful. It was an absolute gutting of the house and the turn around time was amazingly fast. Execution of the design turned out even better than I could have imagined-- great vision and suggestions were offered, while still being willing to hear our ideas. Super experience working with them, and a result that drew raving comments from anyone that came into the home.

Lewis+Smith were excellent designers and contractors. We had a pretty insane project in hand in Capital HIll in Seattle and their work, detailing and budgets were all timely and still memorable after eight years. For the complexity of the job you couldn't have asked for a better performance. And they are likeable- a plus.
