“I have employed Andrew on 2 projects, the first being the major conversion of a textile mill into 9 houses with an additional 4 new build during 2006 - 2007. I found he made excellent use of the space available with imaginative designs for both inside and outside the properties. “Clive Elsdon drew up plans for of a kitchen extension for us and we were delighted with the work. He was careful to make certain he knew exactly what we wanted and discussed our needs with us .He advised us appropriately and arranged all LA planning requests and ongoing checks. He liaised with our builders from the start and when required throughout the build. When we decided on some alterations to the original plan he was quick to provide new drawings. Overall a thoroughly satisfactory operation. I was a complete novice where building work was concerned and Clive guided me through the lot; for which I was extremely grateful.”

Vad en arkitekt gör vet de flesta, de ritar givetvis hus och andra byggnader. Ibland kallas de vi kallar för arkitekt för husarkitekt eller byggnadsarkitekt för att särskilja dem från andra typer av arkitekter som är inriktade på till exempel inredning eller trädgård. Arkitekten är helt enkelt den som lägger den allra första grunden för hur byggnaden ska se ut, ofta tillsammans med den som vill bygga huset. Du kommer märka ganska snabbt om arkitekten som du är intresserad av kommer kunna hjälpa dig, om inte annat om du hör av dig och frågar dem!

Hur utbildar jag mig till arkitekt i Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, UK?

Du läser en utbildning i arkitektur, helt enkelt. Först läser du en kandidat på tre år, sedan kan du läsa en master på ytterligare två år. De flesta svenska arkitekter på arkitektkontor eller arkitektbyrå i Sverige har läst båda, det vill säga i fem år. I Sverige kan du studera arkitektur på Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan i Stockholm, Umeå Arkitekturskola och på Lunds Tekniska Universitet. Det är ofta ingen enkel utbildning att komma in på, men har man antingen rätt betyg, en stor talang eller varför inte både och så brukar man kunna ta sig in. Hur väljer jag rätt arkitekt i Newcastle upon Tyne för mitt uppdrag?

Att välja arkitekt är inte lätt alls, med tanke på att olika arkitekter och arkitektbyråer har olika specialistkompetenser. Vissa arkitektföretag ritar i princip bara offentliga byggnader. Det kan vara sjukhus, tågstationer, konsthallar, kyrkor eller hotell. Andra riktar in sig på privata hem och specialiserar sig på exempelvis arkitektritade moderna villor. Andra företag gör både och, det vill säga både privat och offentligt. Vilken arkitektfirma som passar dig bäst vet såklart du, så sök bland arkitekter i din stad och välj ut några som du tycker passar. För en sak är säker, och det är att alla kan hitta någon som passar ens personliga tycke och smak. Kolla runt på vad olika typer av arkitekter gjort tidigare och kontakta den eller dem vars projekt faller dig bäst i smaken.

Vad ska jag tänka på när jag ska kontakta en arkitekt?

Precis som när man kontaktar många andra typer av yrkesgrupper är det viktigt att komma ihåg att man kontaktar någon för att den är expert på projektet man vill genomföra. Ofta är det lätt att själv tro att man har rätt bra koll, och no offence, men ofta har man inte det. Särskilt inte när det kommer till komplexa arkitektritningar, om man inte själv är utbildad inom det vill säga. Lita därför på arkitekten du kontaktar, men var såklart ändå ifrågasättande. Ett tips är att hitta några arkitekter vars projekt intresserar eller imponerar på dig, och kontakta dem och för en dialog. Det är sällan man hittar rätt arkitekt på första försöket, så kontakta ett gäng olika som du sökt upp här på Houzz och se vad de har att säga. Kanske får de en helt annan vision av ditt drömboende än du redan hade, och det passar dig inte alls, eller så kommer de med grymma idéer som förbättrar hemmet på ett otroligt sätt. Vanligt är faktiskt att det är just det sistnämnda, så ge dem en chans att visa en arkitektritning om du tycker att deras förslag är intressanta. Ha ett öppet sinne, var intresserad och involverad och ställ frågor, på så sätt brukar man få sig ett riktigt läckert arkitektritat hus i slutändan! Slutligen vill vi också tipsa om att sätta upp en budget och höra dig för om pris och kostnader. Priser kan verkligen variera från en arkitekt till en annan, så se till att ni är på samma nivå innan projektet påbörjas.
