Cl. Crimson Glory
Has your October Red chrysanthemum bloomed yet and are you happy with it? I have 3 varieties and would like to add a red. I saw it available online at Avant Gardens

This thtead is so lively and informative! Im bumping it up in case anyone wants to re read it, take notes or make another recommendation.
Ill branch out from books. Gardenrant and Magaret Roach’s blog snd NYT articles are very good .Snd they dont involve a commitment to a book!

People guess without enough information. what kind of tree is it? i cant tell how large it is, relative to the tree branch.
Good to see there're still natives around!
This would be a juvenile that still has to molt another layer of skin.
On their final molt, they'll stay green in color (or tan or gray).
Thanks for posting that!
That textured case on the branch really does look like a praying mantis egg case to me, too. I would leave it right where it is through winter, since the mantids that hatch are handy garden helpers. With the mulberry already stressed from a dry first summer, I would also give it a good deep soak before the ground freezes and keep an eye on it in spring.
