FWIW this year I bought roses from April & Ashley both potted and bare roots (no toots except by me perhaps). I didn't notice much of a difference except for the time it took the bare roots to come out of dormancy. I did order mine for Feb/March delivery at the latest possible date, and with protection in my yard they came out of dormancy at the same time as other roses in my yard. The potted plants grew as big as the bare roots and I don't see differences in vigor now between the two types. I obviously didn't check the roots but the pots were a relatively reasonable size compared to the narrow pots you get in big box stores.
The pros of not having the bare root system from last year is that I don't have to order my roses for a particularly early delivery and risk them getting serious cold and snow damage. I think their plans for early delivery to everyone if you ordered bare roots was to avoid the length of time they sit in storage like Susan talks about, but I'm speculating rather than knowing that's the case. The cons of discontinuing the bare roots as bare vs. potted delivery is mostly the extra cost for delivery. The base price of the rose isn't that much different ($5) but the shipping is more. I already pay for quality shipping of heavy roses from places like Antique Rose Emporium and am happy to do so for the mature plants. The same goes for April & Ashley if they can keep up the quality.
For me, I don't see the change as all that different, but I understand the reduction in options limits the opportunities for people in other locations. Frankly, with all the grafted rose companies like Palatine or Regan no longer delivering, I'm happy to see April & Ashley do whatever is sustainable for them, within reason. There simply aren't that many options anymore for grafted plants delivered and in my zone that makes a different for winter survival. I found that the A&A potted plants were robust and healthy and I plan to order more if they have varieties I want for spring.
Anyone know when they will release their offerings for spring 2027?

Diane, the Duke can stand alone! Those are the best roses. They capture my heart with their beauty.
Diane - You used your fresh basil, and I used my parsley (browned butter potatoes), my thyme, marjoram, and rosemary (roasted chicken), and my dill (roasted carrots with butter and dill). Plus, I made an apple crisp. The girls came over with Arline, and we had a really good time. Kedra said, "Mom, whenever you make meals like this, please invite us over." lol So I'm going to make lasagna (with chopped up spaghetti squash in the sauce) next week and invite them over. It's nice to know she loves my cooking. :) I have never made a good apple pie. I'm envious of your skill. :) Mmmm...pecan pie.
Kentucky - I bet that was fun to go pick your own apples with your daughter. Do you just pick the ones on the ground? Oh, that's so hard when our beloved pets die. It takes a very long time to get over it, and do we ever get totally over it...no. :(
It was very nice of you to give her such a beautiful bouquet!! My faves are your red roses (which I always forget the names of...and likely always will, lol) and the yellow ones. Kitty - yes, we're having a few more warmish days, and then it'll be cooler. But it's time. Yes, the apple crisp was delicious!! I've never had better than this recipe that my mom had. Yup, had more raspberries/peas. :) You're really going all out for your Saturday baked apple treat. Yum!

Diane, I am a rose food junkie! Recently, they got fed fortified (soluble fertilizer, iron, epsom salt) alfalfa tea, except for the 2026 newbies. Spring feeding (May) with Osmocote Plus (Amazon), fish meal, and alfalfa meal scratched into the soil. Throughout the season I use Monty’s, Neptune Harvest Rose Fertilizer, alfalfa pellets (July), Mill’s EZ feed, Mill’s Magic Mix (Aug), and Superthrive Ca Mg. I make alfalfa tea a few times during geowing season…Yes, a food junkie I am! I am always amazed at your beautiful, bountiful roses! What is your feeding protocol?

Looking ahead with the weather... Tomorrow is 63 , Mon is 68 degrees F, THEN we go into the mid 70's for 4 days , THEN its all 60's F after that for awhile not to bad... :-)
