Chuckanut Drive Kitchen Remodel

Our client has owned and loved this home for decades. Originally built as a summer cabin in the 1920's, this home wasn’t built to withstand our cold wet winters and the kitchen was cramped and tired. Our client actually spent many winters in Mexico because of the cold and drafty nature of his home! Rumor has it he also loves Mexico.
The homeowner loved the historic character of the kitchen but wanted to update the materials, increase the overall size of the space and make it more functional. We worked with New Whatcom Interiors for custom, painted cabinets. They provided valuable insight and suggestions to improve the function of the small kitchen. Our client opted to use marmoleum flooring and a white subway tile for backsplash. Both of these materials respect the historic character of the kitchen without feeling dated.
To improve the building performance and indoor air quality we completed extensive air sealing, maximized available space for insulation, and repaired siding. We also rebuilt the foundation. These updates made the home more comfortable, durable, healthy and efficient.
