Visbeen Architects
Innovative and extravagant, this River House unit by Visbeen Architects is a home designed to please the most cosmopolitan of clients. Located on the 30th floor of an urban sky-rise, the condo presented spacial challenges, but the final product transformed the unit into a luxurious and comfortable home, with only the stunning views of the cityscape to indicate its downtown locale.
Custom woodwork, state-of-the-art accessories, and sweeping vistas are found throughout the expansive home. The master bedroom includes a hearth, walk-in closet space, and en suite bath. An open kitchen, dining, and living area offers access to two of the home’s three balconies. Located on the opposite side of the condo are two guest bedrooms, one-and-a-half baths, the laundry, and a home theater.
Facing the spectacularly curved floor-to-ceiling window at the front of the condo is a custom designed, fully equipped refreshment bar, complete with a wine cooler, room for half-a-dozen bar stools, and the best view in the city.

EARTH AND SKY. In many whole-house remodels, homeowners must choose between keeping what they love and getting what they need. We look for ways you won't have to make that choice--as in this home, which kept its abundant garden and manageable footprint and gained major space and naturally beautiful materials in the master bedroom and bath, kitchen, sunroom, and more.

An interior build-out of a two-level penthouse unit in a prestigious downtown highrise. The design emphasizes the continuity of space for a loft-like environment. Sliding doors transform the unit into discrete rooms as needed. The material palette reinforces this spatial flow: white concrete floors, touch-latch cabinetry, slip-matched walnut paneling and powder-coated steel counters. Whole-house lighting, audio, video and shade controls are all controllable from an iPhone, Collaboration: Joel Sanders Architect, New York. Photographer: Rien van Rijthoven
DHD Architecture and Interior Design
Originally designed by Delano and Aldrich in 1917, this building served as carriage house to the William and Dorothy Straight mansion several blocks away on the Upper East Side of New York. With practically no original detail, this relatively humble structure was reconfigured into something more befitting the client’s needs. To convert it for a single family, interior floor plates are carved away to form two elegant double height spaces. The front façade is modified to express the grandness of the new interior. A beautiful new rear garden is formed by the demolition of an overbuilt addition. The entire rear façade was removed and replaced. A full floor was added to the roof, and a newly configured stair core incorporated an elevator.

Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl Architecture
This home is a cutting edge design from floor to ceiling. The open trusses and gorgeous wood tones fill the home with light and warmth, especially since everything in the home is reflecting off the gorgeous black polished concrete floor.
As a material for use in the home, concrete is top notch. As the longest lasting flooring solution available concrete’s durability can’t be beaten. It’s cost effective, gorgeous, long lasting and let’s not forget the possibility of ambient heat! There is truly nothing like the feeling of a heated bathroom floor warm against your socks in the morning.
Good design is easy to come by, but great design requires a whole package, bigger picture mentality. The Cabin on Lake Wentachee is definitely the whole package from top to bottom. Polished concrete is the new cutting edge of architectural design, and Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl has proven just how stunning the results can be.

A modern floating fireplace creates spacial seperation between the dining and living room. The fireplace is composed of two eco-burners that sit in a concrete slab with a floating plaster flue above.
Local and recycled materials were selected in warm ad neutral tones and extend from the outside in. Sandstone walls pinwheel off of the house to define exterior spaces and delineate the entrance.
Project is located in Boulder, Colorado.

The house's stark beauty accented by the lush, green valley as a backdrop, made this project an exciting one for Spaces Designed. The focus was to keep the minimalistic approach of the house but make it warm, inviting with rich colors and textures. The steel and metal structure needed to be complimented with soft furnishings and warm tones.

COOL & DRY. A standing seam metal roof offers another long lasting, low-maintenance option while securing a tight building envelope. A stainless railing and slate flagstone stoop continues the cool-tone material palette. A new aluminum-frame glass door and oversized transom reveal a stunning view straight through to the back yard. Updated fixtures highlight the home’s contemporary, clean lines.
