Guggenheim Architecture + Design StudioResidential remodel of an attic space added a master bedroom, master bath and nursery as well as much-needed built-in custom storage into the hallway and eave spaces. Light-filled on even the most overcast days, this Portland residence is bright and airy with balance of natural materials playing off a white backdrop. The cedar wood plank walls in the master bedroom and bath give a tactile sense of natural materials and make the rooms glow.

Le lit escamotable est caché par une porte battante à deux vantaux qui, une fois ouverts, forment une sorte de paravent : il nous paraissait important de structurer la pièce principale en séparant la « chambre » du reste du studio afin de la rendre le plus intime possible. ClaranDesign LtdThis is work in progress. The brief was to make the space Scandinavian in style with a contemporary twist. The walls and ceiling have been cladded in the finest quality cedar that is usually used on the outside of a house. There is underfloor heating throughout that is suitable to lay carpet over. Carpet will be fitted once all the works have been complete. Work is currently being carried out on the dressing area and a sauna is also being installed next to the ensuite. The ambience in the room is created by soft feature lights, all of which are on dimmers. A truly relaxing haven worlds apart from the space it was previously. Clare Crabtree
