Primary Bedroom | Joseph Terry Grove, York (near York city centre)
Designed as a calm, restorative retreat, this primary bedroom blends Scandinavian simplicity with elevated, hotel-style comfort. A sage green panelled feature wall creates quiet structure and depth, while warm natural tones and tactile layers keep the scheme soft and welcoming.
The window is dressed with floor-to-ceiling luxe wave drapes to add height, softness and a beautifully tailored finish. Underfoot, oak herringbone flooring brings warmth and subtle movement, paired with a large neutral textured rug to zone the space and enhance that serene, cocooned feel.
A statement upholstered headboard anchors the room, styled with tonal bedding and cushions for a gentle, curated look. Layered lighting—a central pendant and bedside lamps—adds ambience and practicality, balancing soft evening glow with functional task light. Clean-lined oak bedside tables and a coordinating painted chest of drawers complete the space with a modern, lived-in elegance.
If you’re searching for a York interior designer to create a peaceful, high-end bedroom with natural materials, considered colour and beautifully finished window treatments, DesignBeau offers a full-service, turnkey approach—from concept and sourcing to final styling.

Give your bedroom a personalised luxury just like our client did in Kensington. The traditional raised cabinets merge with the practical essence of an organised space, where the bedroom has been meticulously tailored to evoke a sense of relaxation and opulence.
The attention has to go to the dressing table/TV unit. A charming Duck Egg colour that matches the rest of the bedroom is harmonised by walnut panelling, which adds depth and visual interest. Simultaneously, the modern allure of the brass handles shines in striking contrast.
As you can see the beautifully detailed cornices have been added to the bedroom and we also flowed our Traditional shaker design into this space. You will also find slim wardrobes, overhead storage and and open-shelf bookcase.

Having designed this client’s kitchen, she had me back to give a new lease of life to the bedroom and ensuite. Originally all walls were off-white with a few pops of colour in the furniture, but it was lacking any oomph or cohesion. We began with a feature wall of panelling to frame the bed and complement the period features of the house and carried the colour onto the wardrobes and into the small ensuite.
Although initially my client was hesitant to continue this dark shade through, by painting the bathroom dark and adding green plants, the space feels much bigger now, and more harmonious with the rest of the room.
Inspiration was taken from the original iron fireplace with its turquoise tiles, so the little side table was painted to tie in. The client remembered she had some beautiful pink patterned curtains tucked away so we put these to use and reupholstered the armchair with bed cushions to match. This gave us lots of pink accents to play with around the bed area, balancing the darker tones and adding femininity to this bold and striking luxe bedroom.

Space was at a premium in this 1930s bedroom refurbishment, so textured panelling was used to create a headboard no deeper than the skirting, while bespoke birch ply storage makes use of every last millimeter of space.
The circular cut-out handles take up no depth while relating to the geometry of the lamps and mirror.
Muted blues, & and plaster pink create a calming backdrop for the rich mustard carpet, brick zellige tiles and petrol velvet curtains.

This cozy and contemporary paneled bedroom is a great space to unwind. With a sliding hidden door to the ensuite, a large feature built-in wardrobe with lighting, and a ladder for tall access. It has hints of the industrial and the theme and colors are taken through into the ensuite.

The second bedroom in the property is enclosed within the rear extension. A skylight positioned over a wall brings natural light into the space, with an integrated blackout blind to allow its use within a bedroom. Warm Douglas Fir panelling acts as a headboard with floating shelving and individual lighting either side of the bed.
