The basement of this large family terrace home was dimly lit and mostly unused. The client wanted to transform it into a sumptuous hideaway, where they could escape from family life and chores and watch films, play board games or just cosy up! PHOTOGRAPHY BY CARMEL KING

Botanic and Art Deco. We will see more botanic and green tones that take us back to the Art Deco period. Retro harmony appears in the blend of colours like light grey, red, dark coffee and brushed brass. Dusty rose and dusty grey paired with brass for a refined and slightly retro colour story. Heavy textiles and colours are mixed together for a rich look playing the undertones of the Art Deco style. Florals are combined with branches and stem to give a sense of structure to floral patterns, and vary from curvilinear and flowing to stiffer placements.

The lounge area is cosy yet sophisticated, centred around a large statement wall clock. Sofas are upholstered in a shimmering pale grey fabric with crisp blue piping, and dotted with soft velvet cushions in teal and royal blue. Elements of zingy brights, such as the yellow metal tray tables, cushion piping and throws, bring freshness and modernity, as do the flashes of high-shine metal on the radiators.
