I'm back with another question.......
I asked y'all for help with finding the perfect front door color (https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5300252/front-door-frustration-please-help) and y'all were a huge help.
The problem I have now, is that after having them come out to measure the door and then ordering the door it took more than two months to actually receive the door. I was not a happy camper. But, eventually, the door arrived. Only to discover that "someone" (either the guys that measured or the manufacturer) messed up the measurements. They took the door away and assured me someone from the big box store would call - which they did not do in a timely manner. So, of course, I asked for a full refund; which I received.
Now, I WANT this door - but I don't want to order through a big box store, understandably. Who should I be looking for to measure, order and install this door? A general contractor? I already tried our handy man and he refused because those measurements need to be EXACT, obviously.

5 år sedanI got my new door thru a window and door place and I love it! The place I used has been in business for near 40 years. In fact, the owner comes out to take the measurements, he doesn’t want any screw ups.

5 år sedanIf you are installing the door yourself, I would try the box store again as this is the most affordable option for a homeowner. OR work directly with the company that manufactures the door. Try to eliminate as many middle men as possible. Too many links in the chain spreads out the burden so no one is actually responsible to get it right. Make sure you receive a complete cut sheet to ensure they are building the exact door you want. If you are having it installed, I would hire a general contractor as they will take the full responsibility from ordering to installation.

5 år sedanThe big box stores are terrible at special orders in my experience. I’m sure you have a real lumberyard near you- they specialize in special orders. Mine doesn’t stock anything (well other than lumber and nails!) so everything is a special order. When they made a mistake on a custom door (7’2”, stupid size, waited two months, came in 7’) they had the replacement to me in a week.
