Obviously underneath the teak is a shower pan or a slope towards the drain. Is the whole bathroom floor is covered by a membrane of some sort? I the rest of the floor raised?
This is quite obvious from the picture. I also am sure the proper drainage is provided for that area of the floor. My question is regarding the rest of the floor because there's no usual curb and shower enclosure separating the shower area, so water can collect on the bathroom floor and find its way underneath? Anyone familiar with this type of installation?
It depends on the structure below. If it is slab on grade (i.e. concrete) then most likely the architect specified that the drainage system is recessed into the slab. If it is typical wood frame construction, usually the floor joists are cut down in that area and often additional joists are sistered next to those smaller joists. The drainage system itself then can be either a pan, membrane, and/or a manufacturer's drainage system.
