what type of flooring should I use

We’re building a custom house and have an open living area, kitchen and dining room. What type of flooring on a wood-framed foundation, modern slightly rustic style house? Are the manufactured wood veneer floors cheap looking or should we go with the big tiles or regular wood floors?

A lot is dependent upon your lifestyle, climate, taste, budget, etc. Difficult to make a suggestion without more information.

Slightly rustic seems to call for hardwoods to me unless it's in the Southwest.

I know some worry about hardwood in kitchens. It's never been a problem in the 25 plus years I've lived in a house with hardwood in the kitchen and it's "softer" on one's feet and legs as one ages.

Engineered wood floors or solid wood. Either are fine. If you're doing wide plank, then definitely engineered.

Hi Janae! We have lots of flooring articles on our website. "Selecting the Right Flooring" or "Selecting the Right Flooring for Every Room" might help with this decision.

White Oak in a Character Grade is always a good choice. The floor in the photo could be solid or engineered it wont look any different. The finish you choose makes all the difference.

I do love this! Thank you everyone! We are in Northern Nevada, outside Lake Tahoe, but in a high desert climate. We get all four seasons. Thanks again!
