CALI Legends Reviews

We are in the planning process of finishing our basement and one of our top discussions is what flooring to put in. We are leaning towards a waterproof LVP as it is a walk-out and we are planning to place a hot tub outside with the basement door being the main access to it. I have ordered sample, after sample, after sample, and I keep coming back to CALI Legends Outrigger Oak. There are minimal reviews out there as well as finished product photos. Does anyone have experience with install of this line or have photos of this particular product installed? Any experience with wear and tear? We are not a family who is very hard on our floors but really want one that is waterproof and provides insulation as our Minnesota basement can be cold. The 1/2 inch thickness seems like a major bonus to us but we are concerned that installation may be trickier due to the thickness.

    Hey @jendisca

Did you go forward with the purchase of your Cali Vinyl Legends flooring? We're based out of North Dakota so your experience would probably be very similar to our clientele.

If you're installing in a basement, make sure to install a moisture barrier, preferably the roll on variety. It will keep any water vapor inside the concrete and protect your flooring and home from excess moisture which can lead to mold or mildew.

Yes, Legends is great with spills or other surface moisture issues. It's also warm because unlike most of the vinyl planks on the market, it's a WPC vinyl instead of an SPC. WPC's are less noisy, they're more comfortable, and warmer than the SPCs. However, they're more expensive and not as dense, so you can make minor dents into WPC materials that might not affect an SPC materials.

We were concerned that the Cali Vinyl Legends would be a pain to install due to it's size, however, it's no more difficult to install than Southwind Authentic Plank or Cali Vinyl Longboards. Infact, we prefer the locking mechanism on Longboards becuase it's much harder to damage the locking mechanism on the short end because it's not a drop lock.

Hope your project went well, here's a photo of Golden Hour Oak installed in Valley City, ND over concrete.

@Kim Mac, unfortunately we had to put the project on hold. I did purchase a box to see how the boards looked and was disappointed to find that two sets of the six boards were repeaters as well as the locking mechanism was broken on two of the boards. This was only one box and hopefully not indicative of the quality of the product. Overall, the boards were gorgeous and the true brown color we were hoping for but unsure if we will use for the project when we move forward as now leaning towards a combo of carpet and wood-look tile.
