Family Residence, Custom Addition and Renovation, Kitchen
The original kitchen was very small, primarily used as a service area that would not have meet the needs of a family’s current lifestyle. We completely removed the original kitchen and designed addition spaces so this Kitchen could become the heart of the home. All of the cabinets are customized, designed to fit with the historic character of the home as well as the individual needs of the homeowner. Pilaster style full height cabinets conceal structural components for removed wall areas while still making an elegant statement with their china cabinet feel. The Kitchen has a custom soapstone farmhouse sink and integrated cabinet-faced appliances. The homeowner selected stone counters that reminded her of a peacocks coloring with iridescent blue spots randomly throughout the slabs. The slabs were imported in and the end result was absolutely worth the long wait. The island has hand-carved detailing at the display end and fluted corners to relate to the original homes detailing. The back wall of the Kitchen has a full height hidden door that conceals the hall access to the Laundry and Pantry. The nook table and built-in bench are set against a series of large windows. The bench has a double piano hinge which allows the back to fold down to operate the windows and the seat to be lifted for access to storage. The nook table now becomes the epicenter of house activity. The family is delighted with their new Kitchen and how it functions in their daily lives.
