Inglenook Tile Design
I posted the Jones' wine cellar door on Pinterest, and so many people are re-pinning it! Here is a close-up of the custom keystone detail. It was a challenge to make it, because clay shrinks when it fires. We had to calculate the shrink rate for it 3-dimensionally. Not only that, but there was a peak in the return, to fit the top of the door (the door doesn't have a flat top), so the angle of the peak had to be considered in the shrink rate. The piece was hand-built, without a mold, so there was also the worry of cracking or warping out of shape in the kiln. But it all worked out perfectly.
