Saw Tooth House

This freestanding terrace had a number of previous—but poorly considered—modifications over the years. Unsurprisingly, a more thoughtful and holistic redesign was needed. However, the site is steeply sloped and required significant subterranean work in order to maximise the available space over three levels. Of course, it was necessary to capitalise on the available water views, while also ensuring the best use of natural light. But any solution would need to take into consideration the neighbour’s sight and sun lines, too. However, with our client’s complete faith in the process our team could push the envelope, opening up the views through angled glazing, as we also increased access to natural light through a series of industrial saw tooth roofing incisions, all of which assisted the buildings overall performance. Between practical solutions, functional considerations and creative ingenuity, the result delivered beyond our client’s expectations for a challenging site in need of attention.
