We did a strip of granite under the windows and used beadboard for the rest. We don't have much backsplash. If your electrician knows you are doing a tile backsplash he can set the boxes at the right depth. But we just changed our our switches to white paddle style and my husband used longer screws to allow for the depth of the beadboard. I did the beadboard work and it takes a lot of measuring to get the holes cut correctly but it's standard practice to cut tile for outlets.

"In some locations, because a window is a wall opening, it would not be counted in the every 6 feet rule," - that is a bit of a stretch since a window does not extend to the floor line, and only the operable panel of a sliding glass door is exempt from receptacle spacing. This pertains more to the 6' rule, but there are no further exemptions for the 2' rule for on or above countertops. 210.52 Dwelling Unit Receptacle Outlet Requirements. (A) General (2) Definition of Wall Space (1) Any space 600 mm (2 ft) or more in width, unbroken along the floor line by doorways and similar openings, fire- places, and fixed cabinets. . Popups must be "listed" as complying with BOTH NEC codes 406.5(E) AND 210.52(C) for use in counter tops. Lew Electric PUFP are one of the few that actually do. Most are listed as relocatable power taps for temporary use, not permanent and required receptacles.

SO glad it's at least somewhat helpful. Seriously, I wouldn't know about even HALF of the things I've put into my kitchens over the years if it weren't for the real-life experiences of actual cooks who do their kitchens and share here. The faucet was chrome, so maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but we had several other chrome elements, so it worked for us, and at 40% off what I was expecting to pay, I was IN. Karbon for $769 This faucet is seriously amazing. Count me in the fan club!! A total aside, but the AutoTap was another purchase that has revolutionized how we cook. I remember reading about the TapMaster years ago, and I found the AutoTap for FAR less, and I'm in love. My ONLY beef with the KK faucet was that you had to turn the water off in order to revert back to a steady stream. The AutoTap makes it as easy as a tap of the toe. Love this thing. My other half came in with mucky hands and walked right over to the sink and just tapped it on. Nifty AutoTap #KitchenDorkLOVE

Since this thread was first posted in June 2010 (!), I've had this sink installed. We have 3 cm granite and the cutting board sits absolutely flush.

Completed our kitchen within the last 6 months in our forever home. Over the moon with integrated appliances, induction hob, flush ceiling extractor and wide pan drawers. Also agonised over a splashback for months - tiles, mirror, nothing felt like it would look right with the scandi style we went for. In the end we painted it matt and used decorators flat matt varnish to seal it. So so pleased I didn’t a) spend a fortune on a splashback and b) listened to others who said I needed one! Wipes off splashes a dream! Have no regrets as such but if we were to do it again and money and space were no object I’d Have had a boiling water tap and I’d have integrated my microwave - we chose to keep our microwave in the utility room as at the time I didn’t think we used it much at all. Turns out we use it most days so it would have been handier having it that bit closer. research reasearch research is the key and no better place than on Houzz - invaluable!
