Like this moulding and buffet space between kitchen and dining area in GR

Q

Foto

On basement wall, would wall build-out (on left) help enclose cabs/office on basement/DR wall and still allow sufficient space to access basement from hallway?

Q

Basement wall

Q

Foto

MAx space all the way out to windows/doors in dining area by adding side curved cabs...?

Q

Corner cabs still useful when doors are removed!

Q

Side storage to max use of space

This is cool and shiny. Consider shallow cabs on GR side, or wall with basement entrance. Good buffet substitute with shiny butcher block top. Upper cabs with glass very attractive.

Completed on a small budget: upper and lower perimeter cabinets, sink and countertops are all from IKEA. The vintage schoolhouse pendant lights over the island were an eBay score, and the pendant over the sink is from Restoration Hardware, BAKERY letters are custom, vintage metal stools & accessories are antique store finds. The refrigerator was a DIY project compiled of nothing more than a circa 1970 fridge, beadboard, moulding, and some fencing hardware found at a local hardware store. Also love glass- paned swinging door into new Dr

Fridge (with drinks) near GR may work well for people enjoying GR...?

Love this!

Q

Keep some cabs on stove wall, plus some counter space, but open up wall space into GR...?

Q

Foto

Different approach...fully leverage pantry wall, put doors out to back from kitchen (or dining table in GR) and put exit to side porch/mud room in new DR.

Q

Foto

Room for inset open shelving with lights along basement wall? Also consider where swinging or pocket doors could go...?

Q

Foto

What if we had very narrow wall (dark paneling with artwork here) as only separation between kitchen and GR, and placed fplc (or wood stove) on opposite side of this narrow wall?

Q

Like the idea of new window, backsplash and upgraded curved ceiling line with downlight.

Q

OPEN WALLS WITH STRUCTURAL POST

Q

Like this a lot! Rotate island 90 degrees and move further into kitchen for our space.

Q

Foto

Partial peninsula with lower profile. Place to “land” bags and keys and provide extra storage for mail.

Q

Foto

Way to add narrow peninsula countertop (to grocery bags down) and provide add’l shallow open (or closed) storage

Q

Foto

In case we need weird wall for structural reasons

Q

Foto

Shallow Off the floor storage!

Q

Foto

Look into new pantry/office without washer/dryer

Q

Foto

Consider raw edge counter on GR side of kitchen. Keeps kitchen open to GR but allows more space for appliances and storage.

Q

Foto
Foto

Different take, but may help kitchen shrink while maximizing dining/great room space.

Q

Foto

IF there’s space, island provides additional area for appliances and storage. Toe kick lighting cool, too.

Q

Foto

Where can we add floor to ceiling storage in DR, side porch, kitchen and basement for less used kitchen-related items?

Q

Foto

When planning transition to GR, consider corner cabinet to keep space more open. This concept may also work to fill awkward basement space (with stairs behind) or to make DR space more interesting....could we use a pair of these in DR or on side porch?
