I commissioned Adam to design and supervise the build of an extension of my 1930's cottage that had a small block and a heritage overlay. I provided him with a functional brief and some thoughts about what I found pleasing in a modern house. Adam took much time getting to know me, my lifestyle and my future needs and life plans. Adam developed a deep understanding of my needs and tastes which he represented in the design with professionalism and a creativity that I had not anticipated. He stretched my thinking far beyond what I had at first considered and presented me with plans that fulfilled all my functional requirements and which far exceeded my expectations in terms of aesthetics and design. The overlay made the planning process difficult however I found Adam was patient, professional and skilful in representing the plans and concept to the Council. This was successful and ultimately led to approval, a building contract, construction and final completion. Looking back, it was a joy to work with Adam and the end product is way beyond what I thought possible at the start of the project. I would not hesitate for a moment to use Adam again, should I build another house.

We worked with Adam from conception to completion of our farm cabin. Our concepts and thinking aligned very early into the three year process especially when he camped on site and was visited by the cows. His thoughtful and calm nature made our experience enjoyable and simple. We hired Adam Dettrick Architects to design and manage the build of a two-storey private residence in Melbourne’s South-East. During the design phase we found Adam to be an excellent listener. We were very impressed with how he through the early discussions managed to get a clear vision of the planned residence. Adam was very mindful of what we liked and wanted from the house, while at the same time discreetly ensuring that we ended up with a well-designed space for the entire family. He was very good at steering us through the many - often bewildering - choices presented by our needs, our wants, and our budget. Following the design phase Adam successfully managed the tendering and building process for us. Through the tender process we ultimately decided to use a builder that Adam had not worked with previously. We were soon pleased to discover that we had made the right choices with respect to both builder and architect. Adam organised timely site meetings and he represented our best interests in the build. Each party clearly respected the professionalism and experience of the other, and it was clear that both builder and architect enjoyed working on the project. As a result the build was completed without incident, before time and on budget. We fully endorse and recommend Adam Dettrick Architects for any private residence project.

With an emphasis on a low maintenance, eco-friendly house and environment for a one acre, borderline suburban rural sloping site, Adam's attention to detail is very much appreciated. Our house is carefully designed to address sun and shade, use of natural breeze, views, privacy. It received a 6 star energy rating in the design phase alone.
