We recently moved to the Chicago area after 35 years in the New York area. We wanted to build our forever home reminiscent of a New York beach style. When we retired, we downsized and purchased an 80's home. We fell in love with the location, but the house needed a complete re-model (gut job!). The floor plan was inefficient and out dated and the exterior curb appeal left much to be desired. And we also needed to build a separate work shop/garage for my husband, Ken. We had an idea of what we wanted, but needed someone to "put it to paper" and help us visualize it. We knew we could turn to Chris of Derrick Architecture for that task! He came up with ideas that we never thought of and created a new floor plan for the house, keeping in mind our lifestyle. We love our new floor plan - it's everything we wanted! Our guest bedrooms have privacy and we have a great room that works wonderfully for entertaining. Chris gave the house curb appeal by designing a new entryway with tall door, sidelights and peaked roof. Next he tackled the workshop. He discussed my husband's needs with him (Ken restores old cars) and then designed a new detached workshop/garage. This was a challenge since Ken was also downsizing from his previous "shop". But Chris was able to come up with a great design plan and an exterior that blends with our home. Our house went from being the worst in the neighborhood to a home that receives tons of compliments!!! Thank you so much, Chris; we couldn't have done it without you. You are simply the best!!!

Chris Derrick did an excellent job listening to my ideas and incorporating them into the plans for our current house. He created a beautiful home for us to enjoy for many years to come. He was patient and willing to rethink and recreate options along the way. He was attentive, friendly and easy to work with. He has designed two houses for our family and both turned out fantastic.

Fabulous person to work with. Chris was the utmost professional and listened to what we had in mind. We were adding an addition to an already existing studio. The new addition was for a golf simulator and we really wanted it to feel like it was built at the same time as the studio. He did an excellent job accomplishing this!!! No one would ever know that it was not done at the same time. It flows together beautifully and the outside of the building is the same. From start to finish this was a perfect project with Chris. He is professional and an expert at what he does. I would highly recommend him for any project!!!! Thank you Chris!!! You made the design portion of this project effortless!!!

Chris has a unique talent. We had a rather difficult job of adding a large front porch to our existing home in a way that complemented and accented (without overwhelming) its existing features. Chris was able to understand us and our style better than we knew ourselves. He was able to deliver a job on time and on budget that exceeded all of our expectations but also incorporated our "vision". We repeatedly receive complements on the finished product.
