Lyn Hughes and Michelle Davies – have amalgamated their passion, experience, and knowledge to create an interior and landscape design service that offers their clients a unique, unified and seamless design concept – inside and out! Lyn has been involved in many renovations, new home constructions and property developments in the Sydney Metropolitan area, specialising in specifying internal/external products and colours, and internal layout design. Michelle Davies is a qualified Landscape Designer, drawing on her knowledge and design skills with a background in retail Floristry and Interior Design. Her passion is to infuse the inside with the outside enticing her clients to enjoy their surroundings to the fullest. Michelle also loves helping clients rejuvenating tired established gardens. Michelle understood my wishes for my balcony garden. She was able to interpret that into a cohesive vision and then make that come to life. We consulted on plants, pots and their placement. The execution of the installation was efficient and tidy. The end result is amazing, the quality of the plants and pots was excellent. This has transformed my outdoor living spaces. Highly recommend.

I was looking for a company that could provide us with guidance in regards to renovating both inside and outside the home so that the look and feel inside would flow outside. We met with Lyn and Michelle and shared our thoughts and ideas. They were easy to talk to and their vast knowledge in design provided additional suggestions and improvements that we would not have thought of ! Having downsized into an apartment, into which my wife and I have settled well, the one thing that we were missing was some greenery and having a reasonably sized balcony we went looking for professional in this space to help us. It didn’t take long to find Designing Inside Out - via web searches and a search on Houzz. In quick time we had met Lynn, whose specialty is the interior and Michelle whose specialty is landscape design / gardens etc. During our meeting with them we talked about the balcony garden being harmonious with the interior, having some of the garden devoted to herbs, possibly a fruit, the balance using low maintenance plants, some plants that enhanced our privacy and a garden that would survive our absences from the apartment for up to a couple of months at a time during certain times of the year. Within a couple of weeks we had signed off on a plan that included about 15 pots, an integrated watering system, two espalier lemon trees and a great variety of plants. Within another couple of weeks the whole job was complete. We love the finished product and thank Michelle for her design, the plant and pot suggestions, the incredible logistics effort to get this to happen and an installation that was without mess everywhere or damage. I would have no hesitation in recommending Michelle and her team for landscape design and execution - especially for apartments or difficult spaces.

I highly recommend Lyn’s interior decorating services. I hired Lyn to help us decorate our living room and foyer. Lyn was fabulous, she had a concept in her mind straight away which was surprisingly different to mine but exactly what I needed. She instantly knew the colours, fabrics and furniture that would suit the room perfectly. With Lyn’s connection to a wide range of suppliers, I was able to completely change the style and appearance of my house with the best she could offer. She was an excellent listener to my requirements and she gently suggested ideas which matched my brief. The experience was exciting and enjoyable as it was like someone clothes shopping for you, taking out all the pain and time of searching, and you end up looking fabulous with lots of family and friends complimenting you. Our house had been renovated in 2006 and was overdue for painting and a general update. We engaged Lyn to help contemporise our beautiful home. We had dark colours outside and Japan black wooden floors (very chic in 2006). We were also considering selling the house at some stage and wanted it to have broad appeal. Lyn transformed the house with much lighter shades outside and the dark floors were lightened right up. She put textured wall paper on a couple of feature walls and used sheer curtains to soften some rooms. We had a formal lounge with a fireplace which for years we never really used (we had a large indoor outdoor entertainment area for visitors). The room was “nice” but not inviting enough to want to spend a lot of time in there. Lyn changed the lounge seats, the floor covering, curtains and introduced some other touches to completely transform the room......we can’t stay out of it now! Lyn was punctual, patient, politely resisted some of my more “out there” suggestions and absolutely nailed it with family, friends and strangers all without exception saying “wow” when they see it! A couple of months later we decided to “test the market” and the first people who saw the house bought it immediately.....now we love it so much we don’t really want to leave.

We engaged Designing Inside Out to help with making over the front of our house and front yard. Within a very short period of time, Michelle and Lyn helped us to choose the colours for the outside of the house, driveway, retaining wall and front steps; recommended a fence design that would suit our house; and suggested the right plants to finish it all off. I had been agonising over these decisions for ages but, with their advice, it was all sorted out very quickly. They came prepared with recommendations based on what I had said that I liked, so it was all very efficient. They also recommended suppliers and specific products, which enabled us just go and look at those, rather than spending weekends driving all over Sydney to choose tiles etc with no reference point to narrow it down. Their expertise really took the stress out of the whole experience and gave me confidence in our choices. Now that we are starting to see it all come together, it looks great. A lot of people have commented on how much they like our colour scheme. Thank you Lyn and Michelle!

More than happy with Designing Inside Out (Colour Impact), Lyn was FABULOUS to work with. She was able to advise on everything from external stone cladding, colours, windows and decorative molds to all aspects of interior design. Building is stressful but Lyn makes the whole process easy and enjoyable. We loved the way she knows all the trends and cleverly designs so that all the spaces are purpose built. We used Lyn and Michelle when we built our new house. We knew what we wanted but getting the right details and picking the right colours was daunting. Ours was not a project home so we were on our own to a large extent. Lyn helped us with colours and products. She listened to what we wanted, gave us advice on what would work and put us in touch with some great suppliers. When it came to the outside, we were happy to do our own landscaping but wanted a plan drawn up with suggested plants. Michelle was then able to source wholesalers for our plants that saved us so much time and money. Both Lyn and Michelle are knowledgeable, professional and so easy to work with. Their service was prompt, affordable and made our job so much easier. We are delighted with the results.

Michelle from Designing Inside Out did a wonderful job of sprucing up my very small outdoor area. She re potted some existing plants into larger, more stylish pots and added some new, softer-looking plants to the pots, as well as new hanging baskets with absolutely delightful, trailing plants. What's more, she gave me very useful suggestions for choosing new cushion colours and found a suitable outdoor rug. Michelle totally transformed a dull, depressing area to a vibrant, fresh space that I can now enjoy.

We had used this business previously, so when we bought an old house and decided to knock it down and rebuild I went straight back to them for advice on all aspects of the build. From exterior and interior paint colour selections, to blinds and furnishings, there was always helpful advice provided. We are absolutely delighted with the final results and have received many positive comments. The recommendations were perfect and met our families needs and our lifestyle, as well as suiting the location.
