We are excited to say we HIGHLY recommend Precision Enterprises! Precision completed our $80,000 home renovation project in February 2018. It is now one year later, and we have been loving our “new” home ever since. Precision did what they said they were going to do, in a professional manner, on time, at a reasonable cost, and answered questions and concerns along the way! Lane Hinton and Henry Cooley were the face of Precision, and they had an air of integrity about them. See the attached 4 "after" photos. For more specifics, keep reading!
We started seriously considering updating our home in January 2017. We built our two-story home in 2004, and it was either time to move or remodel. We love our neighbors, neighborhood, nearby schools, and the size of our home; so, we chose to remodel instead of move.
We had various contractors show up for an original bid, but they ultimately led to disappointment. Either we would never hear from them again, we would hear from them weeks/months later (not giving us a confident feeling about them), they would leave items out of the bid, some could not do certain things (so we would have to coordinate on our own with various contractors), or some things were just plain too costly. My husband and I joked we were “blacklisted” because we were having such a hard time.
In September 2017, we saw a Precision Enterprises ad in a local home magazine and decided we had nothing to lose. Lane Hinton and Henry Cooley showed up and were very down-to-earth, pleasant people. We sat down at our kitchen table, went over everything we were hoping to accomplish, and told them about our previous disappointments. They assured us we would hear back from them. Of course, they knew we were thinking sure we will. They said we know you are skeptical, but the proof will be in the puddin’…as the saying goes. To our delight….it was!
A few days later, they presented us with a reasonable estimate in person, not by email. At that point, we told them our budget and that we would have to prioritize to stay within that budget. For example, we originally wanted to do a stacked stone fireplace, but we removed that to stay in our budget. We took a few days to figure out which other cuts we should make, and then we decided to go with Precision! Our search was over!
We agreed that February 2018 would be a good time to begin the interior portion of the remodel and it would take about three weeks. We also agreed that the exterior portion would likely begin in April.
In February, we moved all our main level furniture and stuff to our basement, moved into my parents house a few blocks away, gave Lane our garage code, and Precision began the long-awaited remodel! They said we could stay in our home with no problems (our upstairs bedrooms were not part of the project), but we decided with two kids, my parents close by, and there would be a dumpster in the driveway, it would just be easier. Of course, we still came and went from our house as we pleased to get personal items and peek at the progress.
Our neighbors commented to us later that they observed contractors at our house early in the morning and late at night. Our being out of the house made these early/late work hours possible because they did not have to worry about disturbing us. Also, Precision finished in two weeks instead of three!
This is what Precision did!
1) The kitchen portion of the project consisted of painting our existing cabinets white, adding crown molding to the top of the cabinets, and installing a new backsplash and new quartz countertops. They tore out our existing kitchen island and built and installed a new custom, quartz kitchen island/table combo. The island portion has a pass-through door system which can be accessed from either side. They relocated the ceiling light fixtures (and added new fixtures) to be centered with the new island/table combo.
2) They painted our entire main floor one beautiful, neutral color, and replaced our entire main level flooring (which was ceramic tile and carpet). The new flooring consisted of a 100% waterproof vinyl wood plank (a lovely rustic look) in the kitchen, front entry hallway, half bathroom, and laundry room. When they removed our old ceramic tile, they found an issue with the subfloor and corrected that. They replaced our hideous, stained carpet with new in our living room, dining room, and family room.
3) They replaced our leaky sliding glass door (that no longer even locked) with a new sliding glass door with the blinds built inside of the glass. It slides and locks so smoothly. Because of the built-in blinds, we were able to get rid of the unsightly light-diffusing curtains.
4) Possibly the most exciting part of our project (other than the custom island of course) was our new deck with roof! The back of our home (and thus kitchen/family room) faces due west, so of course our evenings were nightmarishly hot and bright. Our then 14-year-old deck (builder grade like everything else ugh) was literally rotting, falling apart, and the steps were no longer safe to walk on. They tore it out and built a new, larger, “mixed” deck (composite flooring mixed with cedar rails and metal spindles in order to stay within our budget). They also built a “grill insert” section so the grill is in its own little area and does not interfere with the table/chairs and walking areas.
5) Then there is the glorious deck roof! The roof design, and the fact that Precision matched our existing siding and shingles, made the deck roof look like it was an original feature when the house was built. (You know…I’m sure you have seen the deck roofs around the neighborhoods that you can totally tell have been added on later…). We have enjoyed numerous meals now outside in three different seasons on our covered deck! The sun is no longer our enemy in our kitchen or on our deck! We can also grill in the dead of winter even when it snows!
6) The final two sections of our project were our driveway and our backyard patio from our walkout basement. These two areas of our home had been giving us fits for years. We had our driveway repaired on two different occasions (one by a “handyman” and the other by what we thought was a reputable company) and both times the repairs failed. Precision’s concrete contractor tore out the necessary slabs and replaced them. Our driveway is no longer a source of frustration!
7) Finally, our backyard patio was an unsightly, sunken mess of brick. Our original landscaper years ago had used the wrong type of brick and thus it did not hold the way it was supposed to. We had various landscapers look at our backyard patio and give us outrageous estimates to fix it. We simply wanted the existing, uneven bricks torn out, a brick wall replaced with steps, a slightly larger concrete patio, and some river rock. One landscaper said about replacing the wall with steps, “I just can’t wrap my mind around this now, let me go back to my office, and give this to our designers.” That landscaper also said it would be basically impossible (either cost wise and/or physically) to get a Bobcat into our backyard to dig out a portion for a larger patio. He was also concerned with the Bobcat causing damage to our neighbor’s side yard. He then emailed us a completely unrealistic estimate for a simple backyard patio.
Lane took one look at our existing patio set up, crossed his arms, put one hand to his mouth, and came up with a workable solution (including the steps to replace the wall) in less than five minutes. That solution included beautiful stone steps and boulders, a nice, level, larger concrete patio, and river rock. It cost ONE FOURTH of what the other landscaper estimated! Also, Precision easily got the Bobcat into our backyard with no damage to our neighbor’s yard!
While we were staying at my parent’s house, they were so impressed with Precision, they decided to have some kitchen work completed as well. A few months later, Precision did a makeover to their kitchen which included lowering a stadium height island with seating to a more comfortable bar height seating arrangement.
I also wanted to mention all the wonderful, friendly contractors Precision used. The ones we personally observed were the painter Tim, the custom island design guy Doug, the deck guy (I can’t remember his name), the landscape contractor, and the concrete contractor.
Finally, Trish Swaink (an interior design consultant) at the Floor Club spent an afternoon with us helping to pick out cabinet color, backsplash, quartz countertop color, contrasting island/table quartz countertop, vinyl plank floor, and carpet. It all came together beautifully, and we could not have picked these items without her!
Bottom line…there is a Bible verse which basically says with God all things are possible…well in the earthly, remodeling world…what we experienced is…with Precision all things are possible!
Happy Remodeling!
