BBC Gardeners' World Live
Winning a Platinum Award and Best Beautiful Border, The Meadow Border created for Gardeners’ World Live 2021, took inspiration from nature and ran with it.
Wildflowers mixed with garden favourites to create a beautifully designed, nature inspired, haven for wildlife and a connection to a wilder us.
Not everyone has a swathe of land to give over to meadow and letting precious outdoor space run wild isn’t for everyone. The Meadow Border showed how you could be inspired but not constrained by nature.
Native wildflowers mixed with garden favourites. Cultivated roses mimicked the dog roses of early summer while Cosmos and Ammi Majus evoked the Ox-eye Daisies and Wild Carrot of the meadow. These blended with the true wild flowers such as Cornflowers and Yarrow to create a contemporary yet evocative design.
Traditionally the boundary between the formal garden within and the wilder landscape beyond, the estate fence, inspired here by Hogarth’s serpentine line of beauty, snakes right through the design highlighting the blurred boundary between garden and meadow.
