The hillside overlooks expansive views of the city of Los Angeles. I created a garden with year-round interest and color supplied by grasses, mediterranean and Australian plants. There is a small recirculating brook that catches rain water.
The garden is terraced and features extensive edible plants including strawberries, fig, lemon, grapes,raspberries and avocado trees with drip irrigation. My client preserves fruit and makes jam from her garden. Design by Shirley Bovshow, EdenMakers Garden Design @

UserWe transformed a messy, eroding slope into a beautiful, low maintenance, drought tolerant succulent garden. The plantings are thriving with drip irrigation and gold granite gravel mulch.
Neptune's Water GardensInspired by native limestone waterfall, and designed to naturally blend into the landscape but make a huge impression and impact, this pondless waterfall built in the loess hills of Western Iowa is a signature project and an absolute stunner. Its placement on the hillside across the driveway for the house provided a perfect setting to make a dramatic impact. The variety of small and large waterfalls helps provide scale and interest, along with making different sounds as the water crashes over the rocks to fill the air with a fabulous ambiance. The character of the weathered limestone helps the feature appear seamless and as if it is naturally eroding out of the hillside. A variety of evergreens punctuate the landscape, and perennial natives and grasses blend into the native prairie grass establish beyond the waterfall. This waterfall feature's Aquascape products and LED lighting. Built to run in all four seasons, but with the ease of being shut of for vacations and quickly started upon returning with no need to fill the reservoir and with no hassle. Running the feature on a timer and the addition of an IonGen helps keep this feature free from algae. A similar project built in the Omaha Metro Area would have a budget around $30,000 and would take 2-3 weeks to create.

The Land MechanicA multi-valent overhaul of a steep mountain property damaged by The Flood and at risk of future degradation. We made room for an outdoor living space by broadening an old fire roadbed using ancient stonework tactics (and a couple of backhoes) to shore up the slopes about and below. We performed extensive erosion mitigation all over the site while making aesthetic improvements. To give the owners access to the overlook far above their home, we built a trail to last generations and accommodate users of all abilities.

Shambhala LandscapesThis unique chalet style home situated on steeply sloped lot previously had no usable front yard, a narrow driveway, and aging, rotted decks. Along with the major home remodel and expansion, we brought the landscape to life again and maximized usable space.
New terraced retaining walls along the driveway both expanded the space and allowed for steps up to the front entry.
