St. John's Backyard Blues
A new, covered wood patio structure takes the place of an old one that was blocking a view of the St. John's Bridge from the owner's kitchen window and well, was just plain ugly. The new structure's front face in angled to allow view of the bridge from the kitchen window, and provides a subtly dynamic to the form. A new cast in place concrete path and seating area extend outward from the house and provide landscape planting areas in between to soften the hard edges. The new wood patio box, completely clad in clear cedar, is inserted into the existing inside corner of the house, becoming an integral part of the house and standing out on its own.
