For our shaker cabinets, we placed them in the middle portion... on the top drawer we centered it and then for the two drawers below (which are bigger), we put the pull the same distance down from the top as the top drawer. I do think the counter overhang would get in the way of having the drawer pull at the top of the drawer. This picture also shows the garbage drawer on the left side.
