Toby does a great job of considering the environment in building a "green" home while also taking into consideration how to incorporate elements such as sun and moonlight into the interior of the home. His use of the many windows, strategically placed, has been a source of pleasure for us as we enjoy beams of sun and moonlight daily. Toby goes above and beyond to ensure the home is structurally sound and to ensure that proper drainage is top of mind. “My husband and I were very fortunate to have Robert Griffin, President of Griffin Architects, PA and Fireside Antiques, Asheville, NC provide us with a home makeover. Mr. Griffin is a well known and respected Asheville architect and designer, very knowledgeable and capable. He is experienced with both multi-million dollar homes and modest homes such as ours. One of the many things that impressed us was Mr. griffin's gracious attitude. Our home was shown the same attention and care as would be given a much larger project. He was consistently respectful and considerate, taking into account our personalities, lifestyle and the pets who share (and sometimes rule!) our home. Our house is eleven years old, and I could never get the interior "right". I knew we needed a lot of help. I had no idea how to bring my vision to life, or even what my vision was. We only had one piece of furniture, bought eleven years ago, that I still liked. I showed Mr. Griffin that piece and said that I wanted the rest of the house to have that modern look and feel. I knew there was a vibe I wanted our home to have but couldn't put in words and certainly had not a clue how to achieve. He nailed it! Working with us every step of the way, he brought my very cloudy vision to life, and on budget, in a timely fashion. Griffin Architects designed a personalized cabinet for TV and my husband's pottery. (He is a potter.) Mr. Griffin was able to see specifically what we needed for TV and pottery, along with a very striking area rug, furniture and art, all designed for our home. And designed with us; we always felt part of the project, our needs always top priority. Fireside Antiques designed beautiful draperies and other soft goods. Almost as important, this creative designer managed to make the project fun! We can honestly say it really was a fun project with a great outcome. We could not be more pleased. Pics are included. “I have a mountain home with a multi level metal roof and a large wraparound deck. I wanted to screen in a significant part of the deck to create a space with a tongue and groove wood ceiling covered by a metal roof that would blend into our existing structure. Two highly recommended screening companies turned us down stating there were too many roof angles to accomplish the job with any quality result. After some research I hired Kirk Bowden, architect and owner of Bowden Environments LLC. Kirk is a talented professional. He took his time, paid close attention to our needs and goals and was a pleasure to work with. Kirk created a design that would give us the functional space we desired while making sure it would blend in with the current structure to look as if it was built with the original home. Kirk also recommended the right contractor he knew would get the job done correctly. He recommended Adam Spencer of Lifesize dwellings. The architectural drawings were completed and Adam excepted the challenge. The end result far exceeded our expectations. “Custom Plan Services was very creative in taking a standard development house design and working with us to modify that design to create a unique house incorporating the many design changes we desired. He had excellent suggestions and was forthright in telling us which of our ideas would not work well----and suggesting alternatives that did work well. He was helpful in commenting on different building materials that would be best for our application. The "Approximate Project Cost" in this review is the construction cost for this house; the rates from Custom Plan Services for designing the house were very reasonable.”

“Ken Gaylord and Blackhawk Construction built our 642 sf AAC block cottage. Ken interviewed us to better understand what spaces we mostly inhabited in our former house. He listened very well. The cottage he designed is ideal for us. We have been living in this cottage since 2006 and it is amazing that, for it's size, it feels even more spacious than our twice the size former house. The details are cozy. We have window alcoves, which make the space intimate. The radiant floor heat is such remarkable; clean, silent and efficient. The views from our living space give one the feeling of being in a treehouse. Ken Gaylord worked with us, took the time to go over our concerns, stayed on budget and was complete with the work on time. How many people can say that about their new home?
