I wanted a great big, airy, open style living, kitchen dining area - for a house where we would entertain. What I had was a house with low ceilings, tired finishes and no front door. Mark put pencil to paper and in very short order, opened up the space, raised the ceiling, added beams and pendant lights, and designed an inviting and exciting entryway that sparks a "Whoa!" and a "Wow" from everyone who gets through the front door. Don designed the kitchen and bathrooms, helped us choose and place all fixtures, paid attention to the smallest details, and made no mistakes. Our house got built on time and on budget. We're thrilled.”

“We met Doug while searching for a new home. Our realtor recommended him to us. We knew we wanted to find a place in town and then renovate it. Doug actually worked with us on 2 posibilities that fell through and then with the 3rd which we bought. He did the leg work on all 3 with the town hall and the building inpector to make sure we could do the renovations we were thinking of for them prior to making an offer. While working with Doug on our plans we found him to be very professional - always willing to meet with us and incorporate the changes in the designs to meet our vision. Doug went above and beyond to make sure our permits were in order. He actually attended 2 different Town Building Design meetings with me to answer any questions they had regarding our plans. “Over 30 years ago, early in his career, Sam Sherman worked on the design of the Chilmark home of our best friends. Our friends introduced us to the Vineyard, and were always very happy with the efficiency of their home and the excellent use of light. When we were able to purchase our own home on the island, Sam was our first choice as a designer, given the positive experience our friends had over the years. We purchased a dark, dingy home and did a near tear down of the existing structure. Sam saw what we did not see, that by reorienting the house we came away with incredible light and views. The design plan he provided not only gave us incredible views but the detail enabled the Contractor to bid the job to the penny. We needed a variance from the town to execute the plan and did not want to buy the house until we knew we could make the changes. Sam’s team dealt with the Edgartown planning board very effectively and efficiently to get the job approved in only 4 weeks. Because we are not full time residents of the island, we also had Sam run the contractor selection process and provide construction oversight. We have built a number of homes before but never have we been on budget and on schedule and never before have we been as pleased with the end result.
