“July 2016 Our house is now several years complete. As I walk thorugh the house, I'm grateful that Phil was able to work with us. It's amazing how the little touches that he suggested throughout the house enhances our living experience. Instead of using the main hallway, the kids love the passage way to each other's bedrooms. It has been interesting to see Phil's design take shape. We have made very few adjustments to the actual design. In our numerous discussions of how to place the house, Phil has done a great job. We will have incredible amounts of sunlight flowing through the main living areas of the house during the day-ESPECIALLY during the winter months. At night, the bedrooms will be nicely sheltered by the winds that at times blow very briskly across the property. Great Job! These are the fine details that Phil was able to capture for us, which we didn't even think about. I know that Phil had told us about the ceiling details during the design stage and for a non artistic person it was difficult for me to envision. Having seen it framed and how it fits with the arches through the hallway, and how at the end of the hallway, it is framed by a window that offers an incredible view, I have to say- I am truly impressed by Phil's attention to details. Thnx Phil! We worked with Phil recently. Phil was able to effectively listen to our needs/wishes and put our ideas into a design that we are very happy with. In terms of time, Phil and Matt were readily available for help and advice, often outside of "normal" work hours. They were willing to help in providing us with information about other trades that will help us achieve our goals. We have also shown the design to several builders for planning and logistics purposes and the general feedback has been that the design is coherent and well thought out. We will certainly call on Phil and Mat to do future work. It was a fabulous work relationship and I would highly recommend them to my friends and family. Thanks Guys! Note: If I could give a 4.8 on Houzz, I would certainly do so but unfortunately, I can only give 4 or 5 stars. They are not perfect, but pretty darn close.”

“Kristi McKechnie worked with us to rebuild our small cottage (900 sq ft). We wanted to maintain a "cottage feel" and were restricted to working within a limited footprint. We wanted our cottage to blend in and have a minimal impact on the environment. From the outset, Kristi made us feel welcomed and listened to our ideas. She was genuine and professional, providing us with a number of options and patiently responding to our questions. We met a number of times, always with her directly and often with other staff present. She understood what we were trying to accomplish and developed a plan that reflected our goals. Once we had determined the basic structure and orientation of the new cottage, Kristi met with the local town Building Department and arranged for the necessary permits, without requiring us to apply for variances. We were thrilled when the permit was issued. Our new cottage still maintains a cozy atmosphere, yet contains modern conveniences. The kitchen is open, very functional and extremely attractive. The bathroom, similarly is a showpiece!! The materials we selected for exterior cladding, window and doors, interior floors and walls etc. all blended together very nicely to create a clean, practical and pleasing effect. Our cottage is inviting and accessible, with a spacious hallway and wide doors. It is extremely efficient, using things like pocket doors where wall space was limited. We have windows generously placed throughout, providing us with spectacular views of our lake. There is a smooth traffic flow in the cottage, from one area to another. A nice feature for us was the mechanical room which also serves as a laundry room....a real plus. Two decks and a covered porch enhance extend the living space. We continue to receive many compliments on our cottage. A bonus for us when working with Kristi, is that we were also working with the builder. As such, our questions were answered quickly and from a contractor's perspective. Once we completed the design stage and the contractor started to build, Kristi maintained contact with us. She stayed with the project until completion, providing us with assistance and advice as needed. Our experience in working with Kristi has been very positive. She helped us turn our dream into reality and for that, we are extremely grateful. It is without reservation and with great enthusiasm that we recommend Kristi as an outstanding architect.”

“We contracted Hamelin Architecture to draw a 2-storey addition onto our existing 100-year old house. The rooms added included a master suite, a Great Room, powder room, mudroom, and garage. Steve Hamelin designed the addition (currently under construction), which not only matches the the existing style of the house, but also will be very functional for me and my family. He made excellent suggestions that we hadn't considered, and worked with the Town of Oakville to make sure that the drawings met all Town codes. Great experience and highly recommended!”
