Porch surround ...what style?

Hi there, we are at the final leg of a year of renovation a 1915 house. The front porch with original canopy had to be removed as it was saturated and damaging the house following a dodgy render. Should we do timber surround and a lead canopy?.

Puffinrock, first of all congratulations on getting through to the last stage! Most of all - a 1915 house is wonderful - so much style! I definitely think your plans would be great - a slightly pitched canopy - to direct rainfall - can be very helpful. Dependent on your style you could also add a lattice trellis side next to each timber for a more English cottage look (then later work in a rambling rose or wisteria or honeysuckle. Without the trellis is more modern, guessing by your front door, perhaps pared down and you can decide whether to paint the timber. Please post after shots! Hope this is helpful. We are about to do the exact same thing for a client. Try to bring the canopy out as much as possible without it looking disproportionate so that you can shelter and remove boots and shoes etc without getting wet in rain or snow. Good luck x
